Thanks to a special Texas law, the two astronauts will still be able to perform their civic duty, voting absentee from low-Earth orbit. Since then, multiple astronauts have cast ballots from space, including now-retired NASA astronaut Leroy Chiao in 2004. Like most US astronauts, Wilmore and Williams live near NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Texas’ Harris County, where election officials confirmed to CNN that they are working with the space agency to send the astronauts their ballots on Saturday. “Before sending the astronauts their ballot, a test ballot with a unique password is sent first,” said Rosio Torres-Segura, a spokesperson for the Harris County clerk. Once the astronauts vote their live ballot, it is returned, printed, and processed with other ballots.”Wilmore and Williams’ ballots will arrive on Earth about five months before they do.

CNN —An 11-year-old middle school student in Port Orange, Florida, has been charged with a felony after threatening to commit a mass shooting at a middle school, authorities said Monday. “We just arrested a Creekside Middle School student who made threats to commit a school shooting at Creekside or Silver Sands Middle School,” Volusia County Sheriff Michael Chitwood said in a post on social media announcing the arrest. He says it was all a joke.”The Creekside Middle School student was charged with a felony for intimidation through a written threat of a “mass shooting/terrorism act,” according to an incident report sent to CNN by the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office. He said the other students “began to discuss how (the juvenile) was going to complete a shooting” after he showed them the rifles and knives, the report stated. Because you don’t want to raise your kid, Sheriff Chitwood is going to raise them,” he said in the video.

The Summary Boeing officials have made few public comments about the company's Starliner spacecraft over the last six weeks. Just over an hour after Boeing’s Starliner capsule made its uncrewed return to Earth, NASA convened a standard post-landing briefing to discuss the end of the tumultuous test flight. The capsule’s first crewed test flight, the mission was expected to last around eight days. The pair is scheduled to stay at the space station until February then return with members of an upcoming ISS crew. In 2019, an uncrewed test flight to the space station was cut short because of technical glitches and the company was forced to repeat it in 2022.

After a summer of turmoil, Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft is finally home. The capsule undocked from the International Space Station without astronauts onboard on Friday at 6:04 p.m. Its smooth journey back suggests that the two NASA astronauts it carried to the space station could probably have flown home safely on the spacecraft. But the Starliner then remained parked at the space station for months as engineers on the ground assessed how to safely bring it back to Earth. Wilmore and Williams will remain on the space station into the new year then fly back in February on a SpaceX capsule.

NASA is considering keeping the two astronauts who flew Boeing's capsule to the International Space Station there until February as a result of issues the spaceship encountered midflight. NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams before boarding Boeing's Starliner capsule at the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Fla., on May 6. The thruster issues cropped up as Starliner was nearing the space station in June, forcing delays during the docking process. Mission managers also conducted two “hot fire tests” in space, firing the capsule’s thrusters in short bursts while it remained docked at the space station. SpaceX has been transporting astronauts to the International Space Station since 2020.
