In fact, this year, the Royal Caribbean launched the world's largest cruise ship and announced that its next megaship of the same size would be setting sail next year. In September, I booked the smallest cruise I've experienced yet — a 68-passenger riverboat with Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours. After this intimate river cruise, I fear I'm now spoiled forever. Although I received this cruise complimentary from Scenic Luxury Cruises and Tours, the rate for my sailing would've been about $7,075.

A Spanish research vessel that investigates marine ecosystems has been abruptly diverted from its usual task to take on a new job: Helping in the increasingly desperate search for the missing from Spain’s floods. Carrera, 60, is head of the fleet of the research vessels run by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography, a government-funded science center under the umbrella of the Spanish National Research Council. The boat also helped research the impact from the lava flow that reached the sea from the 2021 La Palma volcano eruption in Spain’s Canary Islands. Finding a body at sea, Carrera said, is highly unlikely. Those findings will contribute to initiatives by other Spanish research centers to study Spain’s deadliest floods of the century.

“South Carolina is a great state. Or would a more fitting tribute to Smalls be to recognize the statesman who served in the South Carolina House and Senate and the U.S. House after the Civil War? That’s how Republican Rep. Chip Campsen, an occasional ship pilot himself, sees honoring one of his favorite South Carolinians. While South Carolina has a monument with multiple panels honoring the struggle of African Americans from their journey on slave ships through today, it doesn’t honor an individual Black man or women among the two dozen monuments scattered around the Statehouse. AdvertisementPassengers are suing the Royal Caribbean cruise line after a cabin attendant was sentenced to 30 years in prison for secretly recording adults and children in states of undress with hidden cameras. In one lawsuit, a Hawaii-based passenger, identified as Jane Doe, is seeking $75,000 in damages from Royal Caribbean. It argues that Royal Caribbean should have foreseen the risk of sexual assault, given the prevalence of such incidents on ships.
