While no Club earnings are scheduled to report earnings in the week ahead, 61 companies in the S & P 500 will deliver their latest quarterly results. Sales of traditional hybrid electric vehicles, or HEVs, such as the Toyota Prius, are outpacing those of all-electric vehicles in 2023, according to Edmunds. In comparison, Ford's EV sales are up 16.2% to roughly 62,500 units, accounting for 3.5% of its total sales. UAW strike cost Stellantis $3 billion in lost revenue

London CNN —Historic strikes by autoworkers in North America have cost Stellantis €3 billion ($3.2 billion) in lost revenue, the maker of Chrysler and Jeep said Tuesday. Earlier this month, General Motors (GM) said walkouts by its workers had cost the company $200 million in their first two weeks. Stellantis (STLA) still reported better-than-expected revenue for the July-September period, up 7% on the same quarter in 2022 at €45.1 billion ($48 billion). The UAW has hailed the deal that ended the prolonged walkouts at Stellantis as a major victory. Separately, Stellantis reached an agreement with Canadian union Unifor Monday, hours after a strike began there.

UAW President Shawn Fain warned of a more combative union heading into the talks, but not many, if anyone, expected the union to strategically outmaneuver the companies like it did, leading to record deals for 146,000 UAW members with GM, Ford Motor and Stellantis . UAW members must still vote to ratify the tentative agreements. 1, of course, are the UAW members," said Art Wheaton, a labor professor at The Worker Institute at Cornell University. Some winners, some losers: UAW membersBroadly speaking, the UAW members covered by the new deals are winners, however not everyone faced the financial toll of the union's strikes against the Detroit automakers. They may also be targets of increased organizing efforts by members seeking better wages like those for UAW members.

The UAW on Sunday released parts of its tentative agreement with Ford, which was first announced last Wednesday. Modeled after the Ford agreement, the UAW reached a tentative labor deal with General Motors (GM) early Monday and one with Chrysler-parent Stellantis (STLA) on Saturday. The only third-quarter sales beat was in Ford Blue, its legacy internal combustion engine unit, which also includes hybrids. However, Ford Blue missed on EBIT (earnings before taxes and interest). We think the automaker can achieve these goals since it has support from its resilient Ford Blue segment, which continues to be profitable in all regions.

Investors just got a look at how much the United Auto Workers strike is costing General Motors (GM) in lost production. Stellantis ' strong growth outlook should successfully mitigate any headwinds from the ongoing United Auto Workers strike, according to Barclays. Barclays' price target of €22.5, or $23.74, implies more than 20% upside from Stellantis' $19.68 close Friday afternoon. Despite this, Stellantis' stock is still trading near its all-time highs after rallying close to 40% so far this year. STLA YTD mountain STLA ytd chart Analyst Henning Cosman acknowledged that many investors may be reluctant to jump into the stock at its current elevated levels. As another risk factor, Cosman believes the company will not be able to report a clean set of earnings until July 2024 or August 2024 given the current strike.

We're talking about this year's rise in bond yields, oil prices and the dollar — all at the time same. Nevertheless, bond yields, oil prices and the dollar always have far-reaching implications for the stock market. "The higher yields, that's what's been pressuring the equity market," Wharton School professor Jeremy Siegel said Monday on CNBC. In early September, the two countries announced their supply cuts would extend through year-end, a surprise decision that added upward pressure on oil prices. The picture is less clear-cut when considering the impact higher oil prices can have on consumers and non-energy companies.
