On average, according to the latest CNN Poll of Polls, Harris is ahead by 3 points. Instead, it is a race to 270 electoral votes through the Electoral College. Per CNN’s current race ratings, Harris starts at 225 electoral votes to Trump’s 219. A win in Nebraska’s 2nd District would likely give Harris exactly 270 electoral votes when added to Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Some Nebraska Republicans, urged on by Trump, want to change the state’s method of allocating electoral votes to a winner-take-all format.

CNN —One of the best pollsters in America recently came out with its latest survey, and it’s good news for Kamala Harris. That result fell well short of the lead he had in preelection state polling. The fact that the Selzer poll is indicating a similar shift in Harris’ favor in Iowa makes me think the Wisconsin polls may be on to something. This Selzer poll could also be an outlier, and much could change between now and Election Day. The bottom line: You’d much rather have the Selzer poll in your corner than not.

YouGov poll (2,166 registered voters who said they watched): 54% said Harris won the debate, 31% said Trump won, 14% weren’t sure. Leger poll for the New York Post (1,002 US adults who said they watched): 50% said Harris won the debate, 29% said Trump won, 21% said nobody won or that they didn’t know. So while scientific polls are certainly imperfect, it’s clear that Trump’s claim that he won the debate “according to every poll” is wrong. But its poll, too, was a junk poll; C-SPAN simply posted an open question on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

Fundraising exploded, with Harris’ campaign saying she raised $126 million between Sunday afternoon and Tuesday evening. CNN —Vice President Kamala Harris is less than two weeks away from naming her own running mate. Democrats close to the process say the roster of leading contenders being vetted still includes North Carolina Gov. A new CNN poll conducted by SSRS showed no clear leader in a matchup between Harris and Trump. The former president holds 49% support among registered voters nationwide to Harris’ 46%, a finding within the survey’s margin of sampling error. The party has said its goal is to nominate its presidential and vice presidential candidates by August 7.

That’s a closer contest than earlier CNN polling this year had found on the matchup between Biden and Trump. Half of those who back Harris in the new poll (50%) say their vote is more in support of her than against Trump. Among voters under 35, 49% said in April or June that they would support Trump and 42% Biden, but now, 47% support Harris to 43% for Trump. Among Hispanic voters, Biden trailed Trump in earlier polling 50% to 41%; those same voters now split about evenly, 47% Harris to 45% for Trump. That narrowed gap is driven at least partly by increased Harris support among independents who lean toward the Democratic Party.

Still, the 2020 results show that Harris can make up even more ground with these groups in her expected matchup against Donald Trump. Among Black voters, Biden led Trump 84% to 9% at the end of the 2020 campaign. This may seem like bad news for the Harris campaign, and, in one clear way, it is. Without improving among these groups, Harris likely cannot win against the former president. The bottom line is that the latest CNN polling provides the Harris campaign with some hope.

New York CNN —Many Americans regularly worry they won’t be able to make ends meet. Even higher percentages of Latino (52%) and Black (46%) Americans said they’re worried most or all of the time about making ends meet, according to the poll. More than half (55%) of those making less than $50,000 a year similarly worry about having enough money to meet expenses. Even higher percentages of Latinos (52%), Black Americans (44%) and those under the age of 45 (47%) say they’ve taken extra work. Others say they’ve cut back on driving (41%) and they are taking on credit card debt to afford necessities (37%).

African Americans make up about 14% of the American population, yet in 2020 nearly 20% of Biden voters were Black, according to Pew Research Center. You think the ignominy of Harris campaigning for someone else is going to bring Black voters into the fold? Biden’s support among Democratic voters has inched up to 91% from 85% in April, while 93% of Republicans back Trump (about even since April). However, most Democrats and Democratic-leaning registered voters (56%) say the party has a better shot at the presidency with someone other than Biden, while 43% say the party stands a better chance with him. Biden’s strengths are on abortion and reproductive rights (44% trust Biden, 32% Trump) and health care (44% Biden to 34% Trump). The CNN poll was conducted by SSRS from June 28-30 among a random national sample of 1,274 adults drawn from a probability-based panel, including 1,045 registered voters. For results among registered voters, it is plus or minus 3.7 points.
