For many Democratic voters, Vice President Kamala Harris' loss to Donald Trump was disappointing but not surprising, they said in interviews, agreeing that their party hadn't done enough to talk about the economy and lamenting lingering racism and sexism. Voters in Dearborn, America's only Arab-majority city, broke decisively for Trump over Harris, a departure from Joe Biden’s beating Trump there in 2020. "I was really praying that she would get it," said Deborah McKinnon, 68, a Black Democratic voter from Pittsburgh. "It just underscores that Black women are the most loyal Democrats, and they were the power behind Kamala Harris' campaign," Allison said. John Park, 37, a Black Democratic voter in suburban Atlanta, said that as a warehouse worker for an automotive company, he initially liked Trump's "pro-America" approach.

“As a Palestinian, I think it doesn’t matter,” said Riyad Awad, 61, in the central West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday. Some expressed deep concern over Trump’s victory, while others were curious about whether he might ultimately be the right figure to stop the fighting after months of failed U.S. efforts. “He said that he’s going to end the war,” said 19-year-old Hussam Alsharif, who was displaced from his home farther south in Gaza by Israel’s offensive. As Americans across the country voted early in record numbers ahead of Tuesday's election, it has become clear that they are motivated, arguably like never before. But it was my daughter's vote I placed inside the envelope," wrote David Frum on X (formerly known as Twitter) last week. She told NBC News that she had voted Democrat for many years before switching parties during the pandemic and will vote for Trump this year. Other issues she said are motivating her decision to vote for her daughter’s future are inflation and the price of groceries as well as her stance against mandatory vaccination policies during the Covid pandemic. “I chose freedom, decency and democracy — along with a bright, just and prosperous future for my five children and future grandchildren,” he wrote.

Israeli strikes killed 38 people in southern Gaza, according to local officials, and three journalists overnight in southern Lebanon, their networks and local officials said — an attack that drew accusations of war crimes Friday from the country's government. Israeli forces meanwhile besieged and stormed one of the few functioning hospitals in northern Gaza according to local health officials, as they continued an intense assault on that part of the Palestinian enclave. Lebanese Information Minister Ziad Makary accused Israel of intentionally targeting the journalists in an attack he said amounted to a "war crime." “The Israeli enemy waited for the journalists’ night break to betray them in their sleep," Makary said in a post on X. Paddington Bear has been given a real British passport

London CNN —Paddington Bear, probably fiction’s best-known Peruvian, has been granted a passport by authorities in his adoptive country of Britain. Rob Silva, co-producer of the upcoming film “Paddington in Peru,” revealed the existence of the British passport in an interview with Radio Times magazine published Monday. In the film, the third in the hit series, the little bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) travels home to Peru to visit his Aunt Lucy. The movie is inspired by the work of late children’s author Michael Bond, who created the character of Paddington Bear in 1958 book “A Bear Called Paddington,” which follows the adventures of a small orphaned bear as he travels from Peru to the British capital. “Paddington in Peru” follows his return to his homeland to visit his Aunt Lucy (voiced by Imelda Staunton) after he is issued with a passport.

The Israeli military expanded its offensive in Lebanon overnight, striking bank branches across the country to target Hezbollah‘s finances in an assault that sparked panic in Beirut, as Secretary of State Antony Blinken was heading to the Middle East to push for a diplomatic solution to the intensifying regional conflict. But it also comes as Israel prepares an attack against Iran itself. The U.S. and Israel have linked the bank to the Iran-backed militant and political group. An NBC News crew in Beirut heard the blasts ring out as Lebanese national media reported strikes on bank branches in the city's southern suburbs. Meanwhile, video shared on social media and geolocated by NBC News showed buildings on fire and collapsing after apparent air strikes.

Scores of people have been killed in Israeli strikes in northern Gaza this weekend, according to local officials, with the bloodshed in the enclave and continued attacks in Lebanon dimming hopes that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar might breathe new life into cease-fire talks that have been stalled for months. The Israeli security cabinet is expected to hold a meeting Sunday afternoon to discuss plans for a strike on Iran, an Israeli official told NBC News. In northern Gaza, the local health ministry on Sunday said at least 87 people were killed, with more than 40 others injured, in Israeli strikes on residential areas in Beit Lahia on Saturday. Videos and photos emerging out of northern Gaza showed devastating scenes. Israeli forces on Sunday continued operations in Gaza and in Lebanon, with the IDF saying troops remained active across the northern, southern and central ares of the Strip.

The student gunman in a small-town Iowa school shooting in January in which two people were killed and several others injured was known to have a fascination with school shooters and exhibited a number of unreported “warning signs,” the Iowa Public Safety Department said Friday. “There is significant evidence of this shooter’s fascination with prior school shootings” and there was also evidence of “copycat behavior” in his actions, Stephan Bayens, commissioner of the Iowa Public Safety Department, said in a news conference. The evidence bears that out.”“Those concerns, along with a number of other warning signs, were unreported or were otherwise unrecognized,” Bayens said. He said the shooter exhibited “broad behavioral issues” and mental health concerns that were present years before the shooting. The shooter was “suicidal coupled with a homicidal intention to take others with him in an effort to gain notoriety,” Bayens said.

The Israeli military said Thursday it is "checking the possibility" that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, accused of being the architect of the Oct. 7 terror attack, was among three militants killed in Gaza during its operations in the enclave. If Sinwar is indeed dead, his killing would be a major coup for Israel and its war in the Gaza Strip. A senior Israeli official told NBC News that troops identified Sinwar as probably being among three militants killed during a "heavy gun battle" in Gaza on Wednesday. Ali Jadallah / Anadolu Agency via Getty Images fileU.S. officials have been in close contact with Israeli officials throughout the morning on all of this, one of the U.S. officials said.
