That's because I don't wear a wedding ring. I know several couples from home who choose not to wear wedding rings. I've been at work and colleagues have asked with genuine curiosity and perplexion why I don't wear a ring. So, I suppose that not wearing a wedding ring is partly that the ritual of getting married got interrupted. There aren't as many events or outings I go to post-pandemic that require getting dressed up, which is when I'd typically wear jewelry.

CNN —Buried deep in an Australian cave, archaeologists have uncovered evidence that an Aboriginal ritual may have been passed down 500 generations and survived 12,000 years, making it the oldest known continuous cultural practice in the world, according to a new study. They cut it, and used carbon dating to determine it’s 12,000 years old, from towards the end of the last Ice Age. Normally they just disintegrate.”They also uncovered another wooden stick which, though 1,000 years younger, was remarkably similar. The two wooden sticks were dated to 11,000 and 12,000 years old. “Bringing in the community way, the cultural way, with some of the scientific techniques, means that stories can be told,” David said.

CNN —As the conservative Supreme Court majority has won case after case in recent days, liberal dissenters are having their moment in the courtroom. Other justices stared out at spectators or down at notes, perhaps anticipating the next opinions, and dissents, to be revealed. The court majority reversed a 1984 milestone that required judges to defer to reasonable agency interpretations of their congressional mandates. Her oral dissent lasted nearly 15 minutes, about five minutes longer than Roberts’ rendition of the majority opinion. The Federal Reserve said Wednesday that the biggest banks operating in the U.S. would be able to withstand a severe recession scenario while maintaining their ability to lend to consumers and corporations. The stress test assumed that unemployment surges to 10%, commercial real estate values plunge 40%, and housing prices fall 36%. "This is good news and underscores the usefulness of the extra capital that banks have built in recent years." The Fed's stress test is an annual ritual that forces banks to maintain adequate cushions for bad loans and dictates the size of share repurchases and dividends. "While banks are well positioned to withstand the specific hypothetical recession we tested them against, the stress test also confirmed that there are some areas to watch," Barr said.

He was among the more than 1,300 pilgrims who died during this year’s Hajj as temperatures in Saudi Arabia reached record levels. The tragedy, resulting in one of the highest Hajj death tolls in years, has brought attention to the shadowy industry of unauthorized pilgrimage agents. It is unclear how many unauthorized pilgrims made it to this year’s Hajj, but Saudi news outlet Al Sharq Al Awsat reported Tuesday that 141,000 such pilgrims received free medical treatment during the Hajj season. Clamping down on unauthorized pilgrimageBefore this year’s Hajj season started, Saudi authorities warned pilgrims against using agents selling unauthorized Hajj packages and had been in contact with other governments in an effort to crack down on the trend. Authorities had also arrested some illegal agents and issued warnings about penalties for those found to assist unauthorized pilgrims.

CNN —Saida Wurie said it was her parents’ lifelong dream to participate in Hajj, the religious pilgrimage that brings Muslims from around the world to Saudi Arabia each year. Speaking to CNN’s Whitfield on Saturday, Wurie said she had been in close contact with her parents while they were in Saudi Arabia via a family group chat. As of Saturday, diplomats have not committed to meeting them in person in Saudi Arabia, she said. Mecca, the holy city that is central for Hajj pilgrims, saw temperatures soar to a record-setting 125 degrees Fahrenheit on Monday. According to a CNN tally, this brings the latest official death toll for this year’s pilgrimage to at least 460. Dubai CNN —Dozens of people have died and thousands have been treated for heatstroke while performing the annual Muslim Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca amid extreme temperatures of up to 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit). At least 41 Jordanians, 35 Tunisians and 11 Iranians are among the dead, according to authorities in each country. Additionally, the governments are only aware of pilgrims who have registered and traveled to Mecca as part of their country’s quota – more deaths are feared among unregistered pilgrims. While deaths among pilgrims are not uncommon (there were more than 200 last year), this year’s gathering is being held amid particularly high temperatures. On Monday, Saudi Arabia advised pilgrims against performing the ‘stoning of the devil’ ritual between certain hours after temperatures reached an extreme 49 degrees Celsius (120 degrees Fahrenheit).

"You'll regret it if you don't have kids," my friend's mom warned her in her 20s. Back then, in the 50s and 60s, it was assumed that everyone would have kids after they got married. I'm sure having children can indeed be one of life's most beautiful experiences, but I have no regrets. AdvertisementThis was partly because I never experienced a clear, decisive moment when I woke up and said to myself, "I don't want children." I don't mean we should've thrown a party, but rather, I wish now that we had done something simple to mark the transition.

After eight devastating months of war, Muslims in Gaza on Sunday will mark a somber Eid al-Adha, a major religious holiday usually celebrated by sharing meat among friends, family and the needy. Adha means sacrifice, and the ritual killing of a sheep, goat or cow on the day is meant as a symbol of the prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son. Hunger has gripped the Palestinian territory as Israel has unleashed an eight-month military offensive on the enclave and severely restricted what is allowed to enter, including humanitarian aid. “There won’t be any Eid, nor any Eid atmosphere,” said Zaina Kamuni, who was living with her family in a tent on a sandy expanse of land in southern Gaza called Al-Mawasi. “I haven’t eaten any meat in five months.”“It will be a day like any other day, just like Eid al-Fitr,” she added, referring to the other major Muslim holiday, which Gazans observed more than two months ago under the same conditions.

AP —A big, round, 4,000-year-old stone building discovered on a Cretan hilltop is puzzling archaeologists and threatening to disrupt a major airport project on the Greek tourist island. Resembling a huge car wheel from above, the ruins of the labyrinthine, 1,800-square-meter (19,000-square-foot) building came to light during a recent dig by archaeologists. The building may have been used for religious or ritual purposes, the Greek Culture Ministry said. Netflix co-founder Marc Randolph's greatest source of pride isn't helping to launch the streaming giant. In the post, which Randolph also published on LinkedIn last year, he wrote that the boundary helped him put work in perspective. "The thing I'm most proud of in my life is not the companies I started," wrote Randolph, who currently sits on a variety of company boards, including Solo Brands. Randolph's family-prioritizing goal may have helped him succeed professionally, too: Setting boundaries between your work and personal life can prevent burnout, experts say.
