CNN —Election Day is a few weeks off, but Americans are voting every day, either early at a polling place or by mail. At CNN, we get access to your early voting data. We don’t see early voting in the volume and the numbers that we saw in 2020. After this conversation took place, Georgia’s election officials announced there had been record-breaking turnout on the first day of early voting in that state. People wait in line to cast their vote during early voting at City Hall in Philadelphia on October 7, 2020.

The mysterious veil of the Treasury monument in Petra, Jordan, has been lifted once again. Washington CNN —Sen. JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, falsely claimed Sunday that former President Donald Trump “didn’t go after his political opponents” during his presidency – an assertion that is contradicted by a mountain of evidence. As president, Trump publicly and privately pressured the Justice Department, and others in his administration, to investigate or prosecute numerous political opponents. Trump made extensive behind-the-scenes efforts to get his political opponents charged with crimes. But you don’t have to rely on investigative reporting or the memoirs of former administration officials to know that Trump went after political opponents as president. As CNN reporter Marshall Cohen has noted, there is a long list of political opponents whom Trump publicly called for the Justice Department and others to investigate or prosecute.

John Vavas, a real estate finance attorney at Polsinelli who works with commercial real estate lenders, has worked on a handful of office-to-residential conversion deals this year. There's around 1.2 billion square feet worth of office space that could be spun into residential space, Yardi said in a separate report. Late payments on commercial real estate loans have climbed to 1.42% in the second quarter, the highest rate in nearly 10 years. Commercial real estate prices, meanwhile, dropped another 9% year-over-year in the first quarter, Fed data shows.

London CNN —Global oil prices have spiked in recent days as the conflict in the Middle East has reached fever pitch. They could rise yet further if Israel’s widening war embroils the vital Strait of Hormuz off Iran’s southern coast. About one-fifth of the world’s global oil trade passes through the strait every day, notes Simone Tagliapietra, a senior fellow at Brussels-based think tank Bruegel. It also accounts for about a quarter of the world’s daily trade in liquefied natural gas. But if oil trade through the critical Strait of Hormuz wobbles, prices could soar above $100 a barrel, according to research firm ClearView Energy Partners, sending gasoline prices surging.

Boeing and Virgin Galactic have settled a lawsuit stemming from Boeing's work on Virgin Galactic's space tourism "mothership," according to a Thursday filing in Virginia federal court. Virgin Galactic attorney Brett Williamson and Boeing said in emails that the lawsuit was "satisfactorily resolved by mutual agreement of the parties." Boeing sued Virgin in March, accusing it of stealing trade secrets and refusing to pay $25 million owed for Boeing's work. Virgin said it was entitled to monetary damages of at least "the difference between the $45.6 million paid by Virgin Galactic to Boeing and the substantially lower actual value of Boeing's performance." The case is The Boeing Company and Aurora Flight Sciences Corp v. Virgin Galactic LLC, U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, No.

The second moon that Earth has captured in its orbit this month is an asteroid called 2024 PT5. Mini-moons like this could be ideal targets for asteroid mining to send humans deeper into space. Space mining could be huge, since some asteroids are worth more than our entire global economy. Some startups are trying to figure out how to start mining space rocks, and do it in a cost-effective way. "Either if you are thinking about collecting mineral samples for research or starting a space mining venture, mini-moons are your best bet to get your business off the ground," he said.

Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who chairs the investigations subcommittee, said the Secret Service engaged in an “Abbott and Costello kind of 'Who’s on First?' He argued Tuesday that the Secret Service was "stonewalling" the congressional investigation.
