Prime rents have been rising in major cities around the world as pandemic restrictions ease. That's according to the latest Knight Frank Prime Global Rental Index report. Out of the 10 cities tracked by the real estate consultancy, only two of them — Hong Kong and Auckland — registered declines in prime rental prices. Financial hub Hong Kong was affected by pandemic restrictions, while supply was strong in Auckland's luxury property segment, Knight Frank wrote in its report. Keep reading for a look at the five major cities where prime — or luxury — rentals rose the fastest in the third quarter of 2022.
Elon Musk has been weighing in more and more on political issues since buying Twitter. "Any argument that he's trying to empower the center is patently bullshit," a researcher on extremism told Insider. "In the past I voted Democrat, because they were (mostly) the kindness party," Musk wrote in a tweet this May. "Any argument that he's trying to empower the center is patently bullshit and should be treated as such." "The way that Twitter's content moderation has changed since he's taken over has definitely skewed towards favoring the far-right," Berger said.
The retail brokerage will pay a 1% "match" on contributions its customers make to a Robinhood individual retirement account, the firm said Tuesday. The firm is billing it as the first-ever match paid to retail IRA customers (i.e., outside of a workplace retirement plan.) A 401(k) match is a common retirement benefit offered by employers that sponsor a workplace retirement plan. How the match worksA 401(k) match is generally structured as a share of employee contributions. There aren't any contribution or account minimums to get the Robinhood match, and trades don't carry commissions.
Eisai and Biogen are scheduled to present full data from their lecanemab study on Tuesday at the Clinical Trials on Alzheimer's Disease conference in San Francisco. Lecanemab’s success rests on years of research into the causes of Alzheimer’s as well as advances in measuring amyloid deposits through brain scans and spinal fluids. At least 16 treatments are being tested in clinical trials, with results expected over the next three years, according to a Reuters review of the clinicaltrials.gov registry. The drugmaker has been largely absent from the Alzheimer's space after the high-profile failure of its drug verubecestat five years ago. But several antibody therapies from Lilly, Biogen and AbbVie(ABBV.N) that were designed to slow the rate of tau accumulations failed outright last year.
But it is spreading across finance, energy, retail and aviation, threatening to push up labour costs in industries facing supply-chain bottlenecks and worker shortages. The turmoil is especially pronounced because union power was curtailed in Australia under laws in place since the 1990s. In the year to June, the average Australian wage rose 2.6%, compared with inflation of 6.1%, according to official data. Despite seven interest-rate hikes since May, inflation is set to climb further before subsiding in 2023, the government says. But in the current climate in Australia, workers are in no mood to back down.
The newest report's authors highlighted the "terminal diagnosis" for the ice that forms and floats atop the Arctic Ocean each summer. On Monday evening, Arctic campaigners and indigenous youth from the region planned a media event to mark the demise of sea ice. Mallett said COP27 talks would do little to save the summer sea ice. Last year, the U.N. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change said summer sea ice would be lost even if warming peaked at 1.6 degrees above the preindustrial average. If summer sea ice is lost, no multiyear sea ice — sea ice that persists in the ocean from year to year — will remain.
A suspected Russian spy was arrested in a Norwegian Arctic town this week, adding to fears about Moscow’s activity in the region after a string of recent incidents. “The person concerned was an intern at UiT The Arctic University of Norway, and thus not employed by the university,” the statement said. He said both he and the arrested man were part of a research network for students and researchers working on different types of security. It said that the “spy mania against Russia has been actively promoted in Norway lately.”“Everything Russian, whether it be state bodies, private companies or individual citizens, is suspicious and smacks of espionage,” it added. The latest incident comes after Norwegian media reported at least eight arrests of Russian nationals in recent weeks, suspected of flying drones and taking photos in restricted areas in northern and central Norway.

A Wall Street analyst expects profit margins to shrink for cannabis companies in the Northeast. Cannabis prices fell sharply a few years into legalization in those states because of oversupply and the inability to ship cannabis across state lines. 'Competitive risks' for cannabis companiesLower prices and shrinking profit margins could create "competitive risks" for multistate cannabis operators that are investing time and resources into the Northeast, Zuanic said. Zuanic said that selling cannabis wholesale, rather than opening retail shops, may end up being more profitable for large cannabis companies. Low prices are bad for multistate operators, good for consumersStill, some advocates say lower prices and a more challenging environment for multistate cannabis companies could be beneficial for consumers.
Since the Taliban took control of Kabul on Aug. 15, memes have helped soften the Taliban's image. Widely shared clips show Taliban fighters struggling to understand how gym equipment works and riding carousel horses. One image of Taliban fighters eating ice cream shared on Twitter by journalist Sami Yousafzai received 8.4 million impressions in a little over a week. Taliban fighters gather in the outskirts of Kabul to showcase and repair captured military equipment from defeated elite Afghan units on Aug. 16, 2021. Others are categorically not: a video purporting to be Taliban fighters celebrating by dancing to music was fact-checked as a fraud.
