An iPhone 4 exploded and caught on fire in an Ohio house while charging in the middle of the night. Resident Brian Leisgang and his wife passed down their old iPhones for their children to use. It's rare for old iPhones to catch on fire, though natural wear and faulty cables make it possible. "We were extremely lucky to avoid a house fire," Leisgang said in a Jan. 9 Facebook post of the incident. CNN —Apple is raising the price of battery replacements for all out-of-warranty iPhone models prior to the current iPhone 14 lineup, the company confirmed on its website. Starting March 1, Apple (AAPL) will charge $89 for battery replacements for iPhone X through iPhone 13 models, a $20 increase from the current price of a new battery. Battery replacements for other models, such as the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, will jump from $49 to $69. Apple first lowered the price of iPhone battery replacements from $79 to $29 in 2018, after it was discovered that the company deliberately slowed down the performance of older iPhones to prevent sudden battery shutdowns. In raising prices now, Apple may be responding to an uptick in the cost of products amid rising inflation and supply chain issues.

The home-maintenance startup Humming Homes has raised $7.9 million in seed funding. Its CEO walked Insider through a pitch deck that won over Thrive Capital and other investors. Humming Homes, which launched a tech-enabled platform in October 2020, aims to solve that problem by creating personalized, seasonal maintenance programs for homeowners for as little as $250 a month. A key Democrat wants credit reporting agencies Equifax , Experian and TransUnion investigated for allegedly failing to respond to consumer complaints during the pandemic. Clyburn asked the chief executive officers of Equifax, Experian and TransUnion in May for the companies' responses to consumer complaints in the early days of the pandemic. The subcommittee partly credited the pause on student loan payments and an increase in pandemic-related identity theft to credit reporting errors. The bureau also cited the credit reporting companies for accepting these findings without an independent investigation. "Errors in credit reports can reduce consumers' credit scores, potentially blocking access to loans, housing, and employment, among other serious consequences."
