CNN —Pioneering travel guidebook writer Arthur Frommer has died at the age of 95, according to a statement from the media brand he founded. He continued to write, travel, publish, speak at conferences and give interviews into his 90s. But for Frommer, travel writing was about more than recommending hotels or providing historical facts about famous attractions. “Throughout his remarkable life, Arthur Frommer democratized travel, showing average Americans how anyone can afford to travel widely and better understand the world,” she wrote in the announcement of her father’s death. He most recently was co-host of Fox Business’ “The Bottom Line,” after first joining Fox News as a contributor in 2020. Wednesday marked his last day appearing on Fox Business, and he interviewed for the role of transportation secretary later in the week, according to a source. In the role, Duffy would takeover the department from Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who was named to lead the department in February 2021. Speaker Mike Johnson on Sunday left the door open to adjourning Congress so President-elect Donald Trump can appoint his Cabinet nominees outside of the usual Senate confirmation process if necessary. Both chambers usually gavel in for pro forma sessions even during times of recess specifically to prevent the president from making recess appointments and bypassing congressional approval. President Barack Obama once tried to use recess appointments and was rebuked by the Supreme Court, which said in 2014 that recesses needed to be 10 days or longer for recess appointments to be legal. Johnson isn’t the only Trump ally who has left the door open to using a recess appointment to confirm Trump’s Cabinet picks. “I have literally not discussed one word about the ethics report, not once, and I’ve been with him quite a bit this week,” Johnson said.

CNN —After the suicide of a nonbinary student last February spurred a monthslong federal investigation, the US Department of Education found Title IX violations in an Oklahoma public school district including multiple failures to respond to notices of sexual harassment. The DOE’s Office of Civil Rights announced a resolution Wednesday with the Owasso Public School District to remedy Title IX violations linked to sexual harassment in district schools. The OCR investigation began last March, weeks after the death of nonbinary teen, Nex Benedict. The investigation also identified several other instances in the last three years when district staff failed to properly respond to sexual harassment complaints.
