Bowery: 2023 CNBC Disruptor 50

Founded in 2015 in New York City, Bowery is among several urban plant factories that are changing food supplies, and attracting substantial funding. The need to grow produce more efficiently, and closer to end markets, is represented in Bowery and the concept of vertical agriculture. Early last year, Bowery secured a $150 million credit investment from KKR & Co. Overall, Bowery increased its retail distribution 40% in 2022, with supermarket chains Albertsons, Giant Food, Walmart and Whole Foods on board. Almost a decade on from its founding, the idea behind Bowery remains novel, but skeptics say vertical farming remains closer to a DIY niche than a grown up, globally scalable agtech industry.
Morning Bid: Bank reverb frames Fed decision

While there was some minor repricing of Fed probabilities in the futures market, the latest bout of bank stock nerves is unlikely to change the Fed's course on its own. A White House economist on Tuesday said Fed rate hikes were having a negative impact on the banking sector. Signs of some loosening of a very tight labor market may also encourage the Fed that its rate hiking job is done after this week. Private sector job readings for April are due later today along with service sector surveys for the month. With the Fed in view alongside the debt ceiling crunch and bank stock retreat, longer-term Treasury bonds rallied.
The biggest week of this earnings season showed us that things aren't as bad as many feared. The week ahead of earnings, including several more Club names, should tell us more. The results are always important, but it's the guidance and management commentary we will really hone in on to better understand the path ahead. In Amazon's case, a solid first quarter for its AWS cloud business was overshadowed by management seeing a material slowdown in April. ET: Nonfarm Payrolls Looking back It was the biggest week of this earnings season for the Club as several of our mega-cap holdings and industry bellwethers reported results.

Most important this week is Friday's core personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index for January. In comparison, the consumer price index (CPI), released this past week, only tracks price changes over time. The market is expecting the core PCE price index to rise 0.4% monthly and 4.9% annually. In addition to the core PCE price index, we're going to be looking closely at the housing and utilities component. Lastly, the January producer price index came in hotter than expected, rising 0.7% from December versus expectations for 0.4% increase.
watch nowCNBC's Jim Cramer on Wednesday highlighted technology and real estate stocks he believes can perform well in 2023, following a dismal year for both sectors. Rising interest rates presented challenges for tech and real estate industries in 2022. Information technology is down 27% year to date, as of Wednesday's close, while real estate has fallen 28.4% over the same stretch. Real estate picks for 2023Loading chart...Cramer said he likes Realty Income because its top retail tenants — such as Dollar General, Walgreens and 7-Eleven — have businesses that can hold up during a potential recession. While shares of Federal Realty have fallen around 25% in 2022, Cramer said the stock has been a solid long-term performer.
The major indexes all posted gains this week despite a Big Tech beatdown, proving the market can rally without its most valuable stocks. Indeed strength in other sectors — only communication services finished down — helped the overall market to shrug off disappointing earnings results from Microsoft (MSFT), Alphabet (GOOGL), Amazon (AMZN) and Meta Platforms (META). Alphabet's results fell short of the Street's expectations, but still managed to grow revenue 6% annually off a $65 billion base. (Canada's central bank hiked rates less than expected this week, opting for a 50 basis point hike instead of the expected 75.)
