LONDON — Animal campaigners are calling for a ban on the public sale of fireworks after a baby red panda was thought to have died from stress related to the noise. The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS), a conservation charity that runs Edinburgh Zoo, said Wednesday that it was likely Roxie, a three-month-old red panda kit, "died due to stress caused by fireworks being let off across the city centre." RZSS says the red panda's mother also died just five days earlier and that death could also be related to fireworks noise. "Very sadly, she choked on her vomit on bonfire night and our vets believe this was probably a reaction to fireworks," Supple said. Edinburgh City Council this year became the first Scottish local authority to ban fireworks in some areas, with four districts under a ban on privately-bought fireworks between Nov. 1 and Nov. 11.

CNN —David Knezevich, the South Florida businessman accused in the February disappearance of his estranged wife in Spain, is now charged with her murder. A federal grand jury in Miami indicted Knezevich, 36, Wednesday on charges of kidnapping resulting in death, foreign domestic violence resulting in death, and foreign murder of a US national. If convicted of the newest charges, Knezevich could face the death penalty. Prosecutors said Knezevich traveled from Miami to Turkey and later to his native home of Serbia, where he rented a car and drove to Spain in late January. The complaint said the vehicle’s license plates were stolen from another vehicle on the street in Madrid where Henao was living.

London CNN —King Charles III has marked his 76th birthday on Thursday by opening two food distribution hubs, as part of his Coronation Food Project that he launched a year ago in the hopes of bridging the gap between food poverty and food waste. Charles visited one of the new hubs in south London, which is hosting a “surplus food festival” where meals will be made using food that might otherwise have gone to waste. Since it was launched, the food project has worked with local charities FareShare and the Felix Project, and saved 940 tons of surplus food - the equivalent of 2.2 million meals. Charles speaks with staff at the new distribution center, designed to save and circulate surplus food and to support communities in need. King Charles treats his actual birthday in November like a normal working day, but the bonus of being the monarch means that he actually gets two.

The decision caught many in the motor finance industry off guard and appears to have paved the way for a multi-billion-pound redress scheme to compensate consumers. It urged motor finance groups to consider setting aside financial provisions to resolve the high volume of complaints. CNN —Fireworks likely caused the death of a baby red panda at Edinburgh Zoo after she became so stressed that she choked on her own vomit, experts from the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland (RZSS) said on Thursday. Roxie’s mother Ginger had died a few days earlier but the baby red panda “was responding well to specialist care from our expert team and was feeding independently,” said RZSS deputy chief executive Ben Supple in a statement. RZSS, a wildlife conservation charity that runs Edinburgh Zoo, is now calling for tighter restrictions on fireworks given the risks they pose to animal welfare. Like Roxie, a baby zebra died after being spooked by the sounds of fireworks at Bristol Zoo in November 2020. This would help avoid devastating consequences for animals like Roxie while ensuring that people can still enjoy traditional celebrations,” he said.

Intrepid Travel, which specializes in sustainable tours for small groups, lets gift buyers purchase specific tours for another person. Here's what to know about the universe and where "Hot Frosty" fits in. AdvertisementThe Netflix Christmas Cinematic Universe is expanding again with the streamer's new movie "Hot Frosty." Netflix's latest Christmas offering, "Hot Frosty," follows a woman (Lacey Chabert) who accidentally turns a snowman into a real man (Dustin Milligan) with the power of a magical Christmas scarf. In "Falling for Christmas" and some of the other Netflix Christmas movies, characters see "Christmas Prince" movies on their TV screens. For this to make sense, "Hot Frosty" and the "Christmas Prince" franchise would have to exist in a separate parallel world to "Falling for Christmas" within the Netflix Christmas universe.

CNN —An award-winning university building that won a prestigious architecture prize is set to be demolished less than 30 years after it was built, sparking widespread criticism. The Centenary Building was built for Salford University in northern England and won the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Stirling Prize, which names Britain’s best new building, in 1996. However, the university has confirmed to CNN that it will be knocked down after sitting empty for several years. “I simply cannot support the demolition of a building that is only thirty years old. “By definition they are the best buildings of the year, and to list at least one modern building a year, after due consideration and maybe a little time, would not seem unreasonable.”
