An attractive buying opportunity has emerged after a recent sell-off in Carvana , according to RBC. Analyst Brad Erickson also raised his price target to $280 from $270, implying upside of 48%. Carvana shares dropped nearly 22% in December and are already down 7% in January. CVNA 1Y mountain CVNA 1Y chart "After CVNA's remarkable turnaround last year, we see the controversial pullback as an opportunity … with the primary upside drivers being likely further volume momentum and more durable GPU than feared," Erickson wrote. Meanwhile, Carvana has made strides to pay down and refinance its debt, which over time will contribute to a stronger balance sheet, Erickson wrote.

Mauro Morandi was nicknamed Robinson Crusoe by the media after being identified as the sole resident of Budelli island, an old World War II shelter off the Italian island of Sardinia. He was evicted by Italian authorities in 2021 when the Italian state converted the island to a nature park. Starting overAfter his eviction, the state moved him to La Maddalena, an archipelago off Sardinia designated as a national park, where he lived in a one-bedroom apartment. “It’s never really over,” Morandi told CNN in 2021 after leaving his island paradise. “I’m happy and I have rediscovered the pleasure of living the good life and enjoying everyday comforts,” he told CNN.

CNN —Tahlequah, the mother orca denoted as J35 who captured hearts worldwide in 2018 by carrying her dead calf for 17 days and over 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers), is once again displaying a similar act of mourning. The Southern Resident population is noted as “one of the most critically endangered populations of marine mammals” in the United States, according to researchers. Candice Emmons/NOAA FisheriesThis act of grief raises concerns among researchers, including Weiss and Hanson, for its physical and emotional toll on Tahlequah as a member of the highly vulnerable Southern Resident population. While no significant data are available to suggest why Tahlequah may have lost two calves within her lifetime, orca pregnancies are fraught with challenges. Nearly 70% of pregnancies in the Southern Resident orca population, which Tahlequah and her offspring belong to, result in spontaneous abortions or very early deaths, Weiss said.

During 10 cycles over the years, those participants provided details of their dietary intake from the previous day. For morning coffee drinkers, the amount of caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee consumed didn’t matter, either — whether they drank less than one or more than three cups of coffee daily. The nature of the study also means it only establishes an association, not a causal relationship between morning coffee drinking and early death risk. Low levels of melatonin have been linked with higher levels of blood pressure and oxidative stress, and greater cardiovascular disease risk. Adjusting coffee intakeIf you want to start restricting your coffee intake to the morning but are having trouble, consider whether you’re regularly getting enough quality rest, King said.

Corruption is the biggest threat to China’s Communist Party, President Xi Jinping said on Monday, in a clear warning that the ruling party is resolved to tackle a long-running problem that is now entrenched in many strata of Chinese society. “Corruption is the biggest threat to our party,” he warned. “I don’t see how Xi could afford to back off at this point,” Wedeman said. Wedeman said it appeared that the pool that Xi is drawing on as replacements also included corrupt officials. The anti-corruption fight must reach the “hearts” of the masses, he said on the program, so that they can “deeply feel” the care of the party.

It was early in the largest investigation in Justice Department history, and Trump was at his lowest point, abandoned by many Republican lawmakers who were still seething over the riot he helped inspire. Attorney General Merrick Garland arrives to speak to reporters at the Justice Department in Washington on October 24, 2022. The so-called lost year of the Trump investigation underscored the investigative and legal hurdles, and the difficult odds the Justice Department always faced. Cooney strongly pushed the idea of looking into financial connections between the Trump team and the riot on January 6. Smith consulted with top Justice Department officials, who affirmed that long-standing policy shielding a president from prosecution would apply to a president-elect.

I considered colleges in three countries: the US, the UK, and Canada — where I'm from. Although I dreamed of Oxford for years, I ultimately decided to attend a small school in Canada. ADI explored hundreds of different schools across the UK, the US, and Canada, but throughout high school, I had my sights set on Oxford. ADFor example, many students in Canada and the US use social media to share information about their university experiences. ADEven though Oxford had been my dream school in high school, this financial reality dissuaded me from applying.

Dietary supplements — vitamins, minerals, botanicals and probiotics — are more popular than ever. As many as 100,000 different supplement products are sold in stores and online in the U.S., the FDA estimates. The Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act of 1994 put dietary supplements in the same category as food under the FDA. This framework means the agency regulates dietary supplements as food products rather than pharmaceuticals. As a result, overseeing the products’ safety and efficacy is largely left up to the companies that sell them.

Jon Husted is the leading candidate to replace Vice President-elect JD Vance in the US Senate, according to two Republican sources familiar with the deliberations. The two Republican sources stressed, however, that it’s not clear whether Husted would accept the appointment, as he has eyed the Ohio governor’s mansion for years. In the 2018 election cycle, Husted ran for governor against DeWine before dropping out to become DeWine’s running mate. But those same Republicans noted that an appointment to a Senate seat — which would initially spare him a contested primary — could make the job more appealing. Husted’s rising stock comes after other names, including state Rep. Jay Edwards and former Ohio Republican Party Chair Jane Timken, emerged as possibilities in recent weeks.

Jon Husted has emerged as a late and leading contender to succeed Vice President-elect JD Vance in the Senate, three Republicans familiar with the process said Friday. Mike DeWine will appoint a replacement once Vance resigns his Senate seat — something that must happen before Vance and President-elect Donald Trump take office Jan. 20. Husted, 57, has long held ambitions of being governor and has passed on running for Senate in previous elections. DeWine has said he wants his pick for Vance’s Senate seat to be someone who can win a competitive primary — a dynamic that makes Trump’s blessing key. Last year, the governor endorsed against Trump-backed Bernie Moreno in the primary for Ohio’s other Senate seat.

WASHINGTON — The new Congress will begin Friday, ushering in a tiny House Republican majority to tackle enormous tasks in the first year of Donald Trump’s second term, from keeping the government open to averting a calamitous debt default to advancing the president-elect’s immigration and tax ambitions. If both leave before Gaetz is replaced, that would cut the majority to an even more tenuous 217-215, meaning a single Republican defection could tank a bill unless Democrats vote in favor. In other words, House Republicans will have a zero-vote margin for defection in the crucial early months of Trump’s presidency. If history is any guide, House Republicans are unlikely to find enough votes to pass a bill without Democrats, as they always lose some votes on the right. But the chair of the tax-writing Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Jason Smith, R-Mo., is warning Republicans that delaying the tax bill could jeopardize it and risk a multitrillion-dollar tax hike.

Reuters —Microsoft is planning to invest about $80 billion in fiscal 2025 on developing data centers to train artificial intelligence models and deploy AI and cloud-based applications, the company said in a blog post on Friday. AI requires enormous computing power, pushing demand for specialized data centers that enable tech companies to link thousands of chips together in clusters. Analysts expect Microsoft’s fiscal 2025 capital expenditure including capital leases to be $84.24 billion, according to Visible Alpha. The company’s capital expenditure in the first quarter of fiscal 2025 rose 5.3% to $20 billion. More than half of Microsoft’s $80 billion investment will be in the United States, Vice Chair and President Brad Smith said in the blog post.

Two older homeowners told BI they want to downsize, but have been discouraged by the tax. The tax may be discouraging empty nesters from selling their larger homes to growing families, worsening a shortage of starter homes. While they've benefited from their soaring home equity, selling at that price or higher would come with an extra large tax bill. The More Homes on the Market Act is designed to incentivize more homeowners to sell and boost the housing inventory. Related stories"I firmly believe that such a simple, straightforward fix would allow homeowners to downsize, sell their homes, and secure their nest-eggs," Panetta said in a statement to BI.

Real estate investment activity is now forecast to increase 15% next year across the U.K. and other major European markets, according to real estate firm CBRE, which has dubbed 2025 a "pivotal" year for the sector. Among prime real estate, price growth is set to continue, too, maintaining Europe's status as a global wealth hub. Social narratives still expect mothers, particularly primary caregivers like me, to stay in the family home. It's where I can finally work in my own office, free from the clutter of chaotic family life.

CNN —House speaker elections on Friday are less about Mike Johnson and more about Donald Trump. Such moves will demand unity and political dexterity for which the House GOP is hardly renowned. In a sign of the importance of the speaker vote, Trump has agreed to call potential holdouts, CNN’s Kristen Holmes and Alayna Treene reported. This is no small task given the splits in the House GOP conference and the fact that a majority of one is hardly a functioning majority. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson walks to the House Chamber from his office at the US Capitol on December 20.

An impending decision on the Department of Justice's antitrust case against Google could mean a pullback for Alphabet shares in the coming months, according to Citizens JMP. Following that ruling, the DOJ has called for Google to divest its Chrome browser as a remedy. With that in mind, he sees the court possibly forcing Google to break up Android and Chrome — and prevent the company from offering revenue share payments. As a result, Boone thinks Google losing search access point distribution could shave $1.15 from 2026 earnings per share.
