As myths about Milton and Helene spread, interest in chemtrails increased too on Google search and social media. Despite the lack of evidence to support it, the so-called chemtrail conspiracy theory has endured for decades. Some of the promotion of the conspiracy theory has taken on a distinctively antisemitic tone. Peters previously promoted the unhinged conspiracy theory that ballots were flown from Asia as part of a plot to steal the 2020 election from President Trump. Friedrich suggested the conspiracy theories blaming weather manipulation for the devastation caused by Hurricanes Helene and Milton is a way to distract from the real effects of climate change.

5 uniform to the first-round pick last May, is one of the best in the NFL at his position. Until the lone punt in Week 4, they had 16 consecutive scoring drives (excluding kneel-down situations). Nobody needs to punt if the offense continually marches down the field. Way said he’s constantly thinking on the sideline about when he’s checking in, what the wind velocity is and what specifically to aim for. It was a decent punt that our guys went down and made a great tackle.

Meta debuted its Orion augmented reality glasses last week without a consumer release date. AR glasses are a substantial step toward a future that ditches the handheld smartphone for face computers. AdvertisementThe battle of the face computers is here, and Meta just launched a highly compelling salvo. Last Wednesday, CEO Mark Zuckerberg unveiled the company's latest innovation, Orion — augmented reality eyewear that weighs about 3.5 ounces. Snap's Spectacles are augmented reality glasses that run on the company's in-house OS.

The county’s machines had to be replaced afterwards when data, including passwords for the machines, was posted online. "It was her job to protect the election equipment, and she turned on it and used her power for her own advantage." Peters said she was simply trying to preserve information to make sure the election was secure, and asked the judge to sentence her to probation. County officials said Peters' continued fraudulent election claims also led to a slew of death threats against election workers while she traveled the country promoting her claims and ignored her professional duties. She was defeated in the Republican primary and alleged election fraud in that race, demanding a recount after losing by 85,000 votes.

Designer Zac Posen — now creative director at Gap Inc., at the Vanity Fair Oscar party in March 2024. Danny Moloshok/ReutersSince 2014, the Gap brand has nearly halved its presence in North America, going from 968 stores in the market to 472 as of February. It makes up about 20% of overall Gap Inc. revenue, while Old Navy accounts for more than half. Before Gap, Posen was on track for a similar trajectory to Mizrahi’s. They started by redefining the positioning of each brand: Gap as a pop culture brand.

The central clash in the pivotal Senate race in Montana — and the fight for control of the Senate itself — was on full display Monday night as Democratic Sen. Jon Tester and Republican Tim Sheehy faced off in a heated debate. Like other vulnerable Senate Democrats, Tester tried to make it personal — touting his bipartisan bona fides, highlighting his own connections to his red-leaning state and suggesting his opponent cannot be trusted. Montana is the party’s next top target, with Tester running for re-election in a state Trump won by 16 points in 2020. James Richmond, 50, an IT consultant and voter in Helena, pointed to those comments in explaining why he plans to support Sheehy, despite supporting Tester’s work for veterans. An AARP poll conducted in late August found Sheehy leading Tester by 6 points, 55% to 49%.

Los Angeles AP —Kris Kristofferson, a Rhodes scholar with a deft writing style and rough charisma who became a country music superstar and A-list Hollywood actor, has died. Kristofferson died at his home in Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday, family spokesperson Ebie McFarland said in an email. Kristofferson, who could recite William Blake from memory, wove intricate folk music lyrics about loneliness and tender romance into popular country music. “There’s no better songwriter alive than Kris Kristofferson,” Nelson said during a November 2009 award ceremony for Kristofferson held by BMI. Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez killed their parents in 1989, but they have the support of family members. The first season of "Monster" was about Jeffrey Dahmer, and angered his victims' families. AdvertisementOnce again, Netflix's "Monsters" has angered the families at the center of the true crime show, but co-creator Ryan Murphy is standing firm. Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez admitted to killing their parents during their first trial in 1993, arguing they acted in self-defense after years of abuse. Still, "Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story" was nominated for 13 Emmys, and Netflix has already renewed the anthology for a third season.

By comparison, from Ohio’s March primary through August, Democrats held the edge, dropping $78.5 million on ads to Republicans’ $59 million. “Bernie’s special interest allies are dumping hundreds of millions of dollars into this race to try and defeat Sherrod because they know Sherrod will always stand up to them to do what’s right for Ohio,” Brown spokesperson Matt Keyes said in a statement. Democrats, who hold a one-seat majority in the Senate, are growing increasingly nervous about Sen. Jon Tester’s re-election bid in Montana. Democrats had a clear advertising advantage coming out of a contentious March primary that cost Moreno’s campaign millions of dollars to win. The report also highlights the types of technological issues that are common within massive federal bureaucracies like the Secret Service. Communications were siloed, and the Secret Service "did not ensure it could share information with local law enforcement partners in real time," the report says. The Secret Service released its own internal report last week. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., who chairs the investigations subcommittee, said the Secret Service engaged in an “Abbott and Costello kind of 'Who’s on First?' He argued Tuesday that the Secret Service was "stonewalling" the congressional investigation.

The interim report from the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee said that the Secret Service failed to "clearly define responsibilities" during the fateful rally. AdvertisementThe report also said Secret Service personnel responsible for planning coverage of the July 13 event "denied that they were individually responsible for planning or security failures and deflected blame." The staff report states that the Secret Service was told that local police had seen a "suspicious person with a rangefinder" near the building at about 5:45 p.m.By 5:52 p.m., at least eight Secret Service personnel had been told about the suspicious person, according to the report. But that information was not relayed to key Secret Service personnel who were interviewed by Senate investigators. The Senate report comes just days after the Secret Service released a five-page document summarizing the key conclusions of a yet-to-be-finalized Secret Service report on what went wrong, and ahead of a Thursday hearing that will be held by a bipartisan House task force investigating the shooting. "This was the result of multiple human failures of the Secret Service," said Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, the top Republican on the panel. Investigators found that many of the people in charge denied that they had responsibility for planning or security failures, and deflected blame. Democrats and Republicans have disagreed on whether to give the Secret Service more money in the wake of its failures.
