CNN —Paul McCartney’s legendary lost guitar will gently weep no more as it was reunited with its owner more than 50 years after it was stolen. He continued to play it once The Beatles had split up but it was stolen in 1972 from the back of a van in Notting Hill, London. “The search for the bass wasn’t just for Paul McCartney, it was for all the fans,” Wass told CNN on Friday. “The evidence along the way would suggest that the thief didn’t know what he was stealing that night,” Scott Jones said. “In a sense it has no value except to Paul McCartney and to every Beatles fan in the world … it’s priceless.”

LOS ANGELES (AP) — New Jersey came to the West Coast to kick off Grammy Awards weekend, with native sons Jon Bon Jovi and Bruce Springsteen teaming up. Bon Jovi hailed Springsteen as “my hero, my friend, my mentor” to a crowd of 2,000 at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Instead of performing at the end of the evening as is traditional for the honoree, Bon Jovi got the nearly three-hour show going. Comedian Jim Gaffigan hosted and relentlessly mocked Bon Jovi for his big hair and penchant for wearing short-shorts in the 1980s. “Livin' On a Prayer” became an all-star finale, with Bon Jovi joined onstage by the other performers for a singalong.

The phenomenon, known as a starling murmuration in English or “black sun” in Danish, lasts just minutes, or even seconds. But it left a lasting impression on Danish photographer Søren Solkær, who first witnessed the spectacle when he was 10 years old. “The first thing that came to mind was starling murmurations … this big piece of calligraphy in the sky,” he told CNN. Solkær’s latest photobook, “Starling,” published last month, charts this migration journey, and with it, he hopes to inspire a closer relationship with nature. In Rome, Solkær included architecture in his compositions.

NEW YORK (AP) — Denny Laine, a British singer, songwriter and guitarist who performed in an early, pop-oriented version of the Moody Blues and was later Paul McCartney's longtime sideman in the ex-Beatle's solo band Wings, has died at age 79. Laine, inducted five years ago into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Moody Blues, died Tuesday in Naples, Florida. His death comes almost exactly 50 years after the release of McCartney's acclaimed “Band On the Run” album, on which Laine played guitar and provided backing vocals. The Moody Blues then turned to the ambitious, classically influenced sounds of “Nights in White Satin" and other songs. Founded in 1971, the year after the Beatles broke up, Wings went through various personnel changes over the following decade, with Laine, McCartney and McCartney's wife, Linda.

Dolly Parton (Really) Rocks
  + stars: | 2023-11-28 | by ( ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +2 min
solo studio releases to her name, Dolly Parton just scored the highest charting album of her career, the mammoth double LP “Rockstar,” which debuted on this week’s Billboard 200 at No. “Rockstar” is not an album so much as a referendum on how incredibly well-liked Parton is at this moment. “This has, however, inspired me to put out a hopefully great rock ’n’ roll album at some point in the future,” she wrote in a statement. I disagree with the notion that Dolly Parton wasn’t a rock star until she released an album called “Rockstar” — it feels like too narrow and literal an understanding of genre. And, as I argue with today’s playlist, she’s been reshaping rock ’n’ roll in her own style for her entire career.

The director Rob Reiner has said that an upcoming sequel to his 1984 documentary parody “This Is Spinal Tap” is scheduled to begin shooting in late February and will feature Paul McCartney, Elton John and Garth Brooks, among other stars. “Spinal Tap” satirized a bungled tour by a fictitious British heavy-metal band of that name, as well as the process of documenting it. Plans for “Spinal Tap II” were first announced last year. Over the years, the three have played real-life concerts as their Spinal Tap characters. Reiner announced new details about the “Spinal Tap” sequel during an episode of a podcast hosted by the comedian Richard Herring that was released on Monday.

LIVING THE BEATLES LEGEND: The Untold Story of Mal Evans, by Kenneth WomackHe was a “gentle giant.” A “teddy bear” who once posed with a koala. A “lovable, cuddly guy.” Of all the people in the Beatles’ entourage, Mal Evans was indisputably the most Muppet-like. You may have seen the 6-foot-3 Evans looming over shoulders in “Get Back,” Peter Jackson’s blockbuster 2021 documentary. He was rarely called the fifth Beatle, as was his comrade in factotum-dom, Neil Aspinall, but certainly could have qualified as the sixth or seventh. Unlike Aspinall and so many other Beatles associates, however, Evans did not receive an obituary in The New York Times when he died at 40 on Jan. 4, 1976.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Last year, Dolly Parton was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — against her wishes. Now, almost exactly a year later, she's releasing her first rock ‘n’ roll album, appropriately titled “Rockstar," on Friday. Parton once thought she'd record a “Linda Ronstadt-type rock album,” but had felt she was getting too old. “I care about people, human suffering and all of that.”“World On Fire,” she says, was written after she thought the album was completed. For now, Parton says “Rockstar” is her first and last rock album.

I didn’t really ask anybody’s opinion, which is how I am still.”Some of Armatrading’s earliest experiences with classical music came through movies. “If you have 18 strings or something, and they’re doing that thing, you’re gonna cry,” she said. Sixty-one years after releasing their first single, “Love Me Do,” the Beatles have released their last. Inside the story of “Love Me Do” to “Now and Then” is the love story of John Lennon and Paul McCartney — which is our story, too. Beatles songs still speak to us so directly because they are vehicles for the transmission of feelings too powerful for normal speech. They gained their emotional education from music, especially the music of Black artists like Smokey Robinson, Arthur Alexander and the Shirelles. Almost everything they felt — and they felt a lot — was poured into music, including their feelings about each other.

(Photo by Daily Mirror/Daily Mirror/Mirrorpix via Getty Images)LONDON — A new Beatles song featuring the complete Fab Four will be released Thursday, 45 years after John Lennon began writing it — with the help of artificial intelligence. A short film detailing the making of the "last Beatles song" was published to the band's official YouTube channel Wednesday and has already gained more than 1.4 million views. Lennon recorded a demo of the song with piano and vocals at his home in New York two years before he was murdered in 1980. Work on completing the song revived more than two decades later, when director Peter Jackson was producing the mammoth eight-hour Beatles documentary "Get Back." Artificial intelligence software — which Jackson used to clean up archive footage in the film — isolated Lennon's voice on "Now And Then," removed background noise and improved sound quality.

CNN —The day has finally come for the worldwide release of what’s been described as The Beatles’ final song, “Now and Then,” featuring the voice of the late singer-songwriter John Lennon.
