Andrew Harnik | Getty ImagesPresident-elect Donald Trump's return to the White House is poised to have big impacts on consumer health care. CMS, in turn, administers the Affordable Care Act marketplace and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), among other endeavors. A spokesperson for Trump's transition team did not respond to a request from CNBC for comment about the President-elect's health policy plans. Still, it's a 'big' gamble to forgo health insurance Around 3.8 million people will lose their health insurance if the subsidies expire, the Congressional Budget Office estimates. Short-term health insurance plans offer coverage for limited amounts of time, and typically on fewer medical services than comprehensive coverage.

London CNN —Weight loss drugs such as Wegovy and Ozempic have been hailed worldwide as revolutionary for medicine. Additional measures to prevent obesity in the first place are desperately needed, health experts say. Part of that new thinking is exploring weight loss drugs. The OHA has crunched the numbers on existing weight loss drugs like Wegovy, the brand name for the appetite suppressant semaglutide. “There is no such thing as a silver bullet for obesity,” the Obesity Health Alliance emphasized.

This as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Ben Maddern, stay-at-home dad and founder of South Australia's Strongman competition. Four years ago, at 47, I embarked on a huge life shift: I sold my business, stopped working, and became a stay-at-home dad for the first time. It's been a huge shift for me, and I've learned more about myself these last few years than at any time in my career. I've learned new things about myselfIf I had to give parenting advice to anyone, I'd say: just take it day by day. Not only has being a stay-at-home dad taught me it is OK to step out of your comfort zone, but it's important to do so.

A North Carolina lawmaker is going viral on TikTok after his office allegedly told a female constituent in an email to “move to China” after she raised concerns about the state’s abortion policy. You all are terrible people.”In response, Britt’s legislative assistant Camille McDougald allegedly told the constituent to consider moving to another country. The constituent told NBC News that she is a carrier for a very rare genetic condition with a 50% chance of being passed on to a child. The woman said McDougald’s response made it seem like “they don’t care.”Multiple attempts to reach Britt and McDougald have been unsuccessful. The U.S. on Saturday reported its first case of a more aggressive strain of mpox: an individual in California who had recently traveled from Eastern Africa. It is classified into two distinct groups: the more aggressive strain, clade I, and a somewhat milder strain, clade II. In the current outbreak, clade I has been spreading largely through contact with infected animals and transmission within households, according to disease experts. But a version of the strain, clade Ib, has also spread through sexual contact among female sex workers and men who have sex with men in Congo. That’s compared to a 0.2% global fatality rate for the 2022 outbreak.

Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday comes as the U.S. Supreme Court prepares to hear a challenge to a similar law in Tennessee, which may ultimately determine whether all such state laws around the country can be enforced. The plaintiffs argued that the law discriminated on the basis of sex by prohibiting certain treatments based on the patient’s sex. Circuit Judge Michael Brennan, writing for the majority, rejected both arguments. Then, less than six hours after giving birth, O’Neil was wheeled through the labor and delivery unit to go home. Racial disparities persist, she added; for Black people, the preterm birth rate is 1.5 times higher than the rate among all other babies. Many of the regions with high preterm birth rates are maternity care deserts, Williams said. The US cities with high preterm birth rates also are “areas where there are many chronic conditions and patients living with a greater number of things like hypertension, diabetes, obesity – those are all drivers of preterm birth as well,” Williams said. “Every pregnant woman who lives in a maternal health care desert should be provided with access to a health care app that is monitored by remote providers.

AdvertisementIt was perhaps inevitable that Elon Musk — a tech titan and a prolific gamer — would try to turn government spending into a game. It's a natural move for Musk, who came up in the tech world in the early 2000s, as "gamification" took hold. "That's that kind of logic that you end up having if you're not really cautious about how it's designed." AdvertisementFor the government, that might hinge on what counts as waste and whether Musk's leaderboard can get people to agree. Otherwise, Hon said gamification might have short-term benefits but backfire in the long term as important, less-tangible factors are crowded out by overemphasizing one metric.

And in an age of swing-for-the-fences baseball, Soto struck out just 16.7% of the time, while the league whiffed at a 22.2% clip this season. Free agency is “going to be exciting,” Soto told reporters moments after the Yankees lost Game 5 of the World Series, ending the baseball season. The Summary An advanced diagnostic test uses genetic sequencing to detect a range of pathogens — viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites — that might be causing an illness. A cutting-edge diagnostic test is helping some doctors find diagnoses for medical mysteries by analyzing DNA and RNA to detect a broad swath of viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites, according to a pair of studies published Tuesday. Traditional diagnostic tests are generally designed to measure specific substances such as proteins, hormones or trace amounts of genetic material. The technology is not a replacement for existing tests used to diagnose common illnesses — like those for Covid or strep throat — since it’s slower to deliver results and more expensive. The test also misses some cases, she added, so it should be used alongside other diagnostic tests in hospitals.

TALLINN, Estonia Associated Press —A doctor accused of criticizing the war in Ukraine in front of a patient was convicted Tuesday of spreading false information about the Russian military and sentenced to 5 and a half years in prison, part of an unrelenting Kremlin crackdown on dissent. Akinshina alleged that Buyanova told her and her son that his father, a Russian soldier who apparently was killed in Ukraine, was a legitimate target for Kyiv’s troops and had blamed Moscow for the war. A video of the outraged Akinshina complaining about Buyanova was widely publicized, and chief of Russia’s Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin personally demanded a criminal case be brought against the doctor. Buyanova, who was born in western Ukraine, denied the accusation, insisting she never said what she was accused of saying. In her closing statement to the court, Buyanova said it was “painful” to read the accusations in the indictment, and broke down.

The second branch of the Taurid meteor showers, the Northern Taurid event, is about to take center stage. The Northern Taurids have been active since mid-October, but the shower will peak Monday night into Tuesday — with optimal visibility likely occurring after midnight — offering patient sky-gazers the best opportunity to view meteor activity, according to NASA. However, the moon will be about 79% full when the Northern Taurids peak this week, according to the American Meteor Society, which could make spotting meteors earlier in the evening more challenging.
