Six people were pulled alive from the rubble of a Missouri home Saturday morning after an unexplained explosion mangled the residence, authorities said. All six, said to have been inside the home in Jefferson City when it exploded, were taken to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, with moderate to severe injuries, the Jefferson City Fire Department said in a statement. Two of them were in bad enough shape that they were taken by helicopter for a faster trip to University Hospital trauma center. The Jefferson City Fire Department's Special Operations Rescue Team was enlisted to help pull victims from the rubble, it said. Peshawar, Pakistan AP —Sectarian violence has killed at least 130 people and wounded 200 others in Pakistan’s northwest in the last 10 days, officials said Sunday. Violence flared in Kurram district on November 21 when gunmen ambushed a vehicle convoy and killed 52 people, mostly Shiite Muslims. Nobody claimed responsibility for the assault, which triggered retaliatory firing and arson by rival groups in several areas. But dozens from both sides have been killed in Kurram since July, when a land dispute turned into general sectarian violence. Kurram is in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where armed groups like the Pakistani Taliban operate.

An Arctic blast gripped the northern Plains, Midwest and Great Lakes Saturday morning, with millions of Americans under freeze warnings. The National Weather Service warned that the Arctic airmass is delivering the coldest temperatures since last winter. Wind chills in the northern Plains and upper Midwest are expected to plunge below zero Saturday morning. The National Weather Service said Friday that travel "could be very difficult to impossible" in spots downwind of the Great Lakes. A vigorous lake-effect snow event blanketing areas downwind of the Great Lakes, is expected to taper off early next week.
