Formula One - F1 - Chinese Grand Prix - Shanghai, China - 6/4/17 - Formula One Managing Director of Motorsports Ross Brawn walks at the Shanghai International Circuit ahead of the Chinese F1 Grand Prix. The story has now been re-told in a four-part series 'Brawn: The Impossible Formula 1 Story' on Disney+, with Hollywood A-lister Keanu Reeves the host and narrator. They had no engine to power the car until Mercedes, with the help of then-McLaren team boss Martin Whitmarsh, came to the rescue. "We had that wonderful period at the beginning (of 2009) when everyone assumed it was a slam dunk, you know? Brawn, a Formula One employee, avoided comment on that situation with the steady hand of a man who has steered his own ship through far choppier waters.

Already given one career lifeline this season, Ricciardo missed the last five races with a broken left hand. But he returns this week to the U.S. Grand Prix, where the 34-year-old Australian has a history of having some cheeky fun. Long time no see," Ricciardo said to the group of his fellow drivers when he walked into Thursday's news conference. The hand feels good,” Ricciardo said, adding that the bone break that required surgery was worse than initially expected. Eventually there will have to be a serious side to the racing, which has not been so good for Ricciardo in recent years.

CNN —The Suzuka Circuit was a hive of activity on Thursday as the Formula One four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel got to work on his latest environmental project ahead of the Japanese Grand Prix this weekend. The campaign, named “Buzzin’ Corner,” also involved current F1 drivers customizing the hotels while the kerb at turn two was painted yellow and black. “I want, with this project, to create awareness about the importance and the subject of biodiversity,” Vettel told the F1 website. Vettel invited the paddock down to the corner to observe and decorate the hotel constructions, with the drivers and team principals happily obliging. Marko, 80, apologised last week after referring to Perez as a "South American" who was less focused than dominant Red Bull team mate Max Verstappen or the team's now-retired champion Sebastian Vettel. "We can confirm that Helmut Marko has received a written warning and been reminded of his responsibilities as a public figure in motor sport in line with the FIA Code of Ethics," said an FIA spokesman at the Singapore Grand Prix. Perez said on Thursday he had accepted a personal apology from Marko, whose comments continued to provoke a strong reaction in the paddock. It was not the first time Marko had referred to Perez as a South American, although the Mexican comes from Guadalajara which is geographically in North America. "I'm Italian so I know that sometimes we have been facing the same comments," said Alfa Romeo's Alessandro Alunni Bravi.

Ferrari's Vasseur says he talks to Hamilton at every race

Aug 15 (Reuters) - Ferrari team boss Fred Vasseur has spoken about his friendship with Lewis Hamilton as Formula One waits for the seven-times world champion to sign a new contract with Mercedes. Hamilton won Formula Three and GP2 (now Formula Two) championships with Vasseur's ART team in 2005 and 2006 before making a spectacular Formula One debut with McLaren in 2007. Hamilton, 38, was linked to Ferrari in paddock speculation earlier this year but the Briton has been clear he wants to stay at Mercedes. Vasseur said Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz could do better, as could the team as a whole in a so-far underwhelming season. "When I was at Renault, for certain changes you had to wait for the executive committee to meet, days and days went by.

A photo taken on Dec.14, 2020 shows a paddock of barley being harvested on a farm near Inverleigh, some 100 kilometers west of Melbourne. China on Friday lifted tariffs on Australian barley imports starting Aug. 5, a move that points to improving bilateral relations and would alleviate supply concerns after Russia suspended a humanitarian corridor to deliver key Ukrainian grains to global markets. These anti-dumping tariffs and countervailing duties were imposed in mid-2020 at the height of diplomatic tensions between China and Australia. Beijing slapped import tariffs on several Australian exports from wine and red meat to lobsters and timber. Besides this barley announcement, China also resumed Australian coal imports in January.

June 20 (Reuters) - Australian Daniel Ricciardo has raised the possibility of racing again for Red Bull as a 'fairytale' ending to his Formula One career. The 33-year-old is spending a year on the sidelines as Red Bull reserve after being replaced at McLaren by compatriot Oscar Piastri. Ricciardo raced for Red Bull from 2014 to 2018, winning seven races, after two seasons with sister team Toro Rosso (now AlphaTauri) from 2012-13. Four days after Cyclone Mocha made landfall in Myanmar, killing hundreds and devastating communities in its path, aid groups seeking to deliver humanitarian assistance remained stymied by the junta on Thursday as survivors faced growing threats of hunger and illness. Aid groups fear that the death toll, estimated by some at more than 450, will only rise as victims of the cyclone face food shortages, disease, a lack of clean water and the loss of their homes. Survivors also face the threat of unexploded land mines that may have moved during the flooding. An estimated 5.4 million people in Myanmar were affected by the storm. Without swift aid, humanitarian experts fear that the number of deaths could climb, as was the case after Cyclone Nargis, the catastrophic 2008 cyclone that struck Myanmar farther to the east and killed more than 135,000.

Officials said at least eight people had died and thousands were evacuated from their homes in towns and cities across the region. The race was scheduled to be the sixth round of the season and the first in Europe. Red Bull have won every race so far and double world champion Max Verstappen is 14 points clear of team mate Sergio Perez. "We support the decision... safety to all those involved and in the region is paramount and has to take priority," the team said on Twitter.
Formula 1 Cancels Grand Prix Amid Deadly Floods in Italy

It is unclear if the canceled event can be rescheduled; Formula 1’s packed schedule has little flexibility given the time and trouble it takes to move it from country to country. If the race at Imola is not rescheduled, Formula 1 will have 22 races this year instead of the record 23 it had planned. The entire Emilia-Romagna region faces the threat of more rains, and more flooding, this week. “It is such a tragedy to see what has happened to Imola and Emilia-Romagna, the town and region that I grew up in,” said Stefano Domenicali, the chief executive of Formula 1. “My thoughts and prayers are with the victims of the flooding and the families and communities affected.”
