CNN —The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are departing for their Week 6 matchup early in order to avoid the expected landfall of Hurricane Milton in Tampa, Florida. Milton has reached speeds of 175 mph and was classed as a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, but has dipped back into Category 4 status. It is the strongest hurricane to occur anywhere on the planet this year and one of the 10 strongest (tied for ninth) hurricanes ever recorded in the Atlantic. The hurricane is expected to fluctuate in intensity before ultimately making landfall on Wednesday as a Category 3 storm. “Milton is still a relatively compact hurricane, but the wind field is expected to continue to grow in size as it approaches Florida.

WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Monday turned away a Biden administration appeal in a dispute over emergency room abortion care in Texas, leaving in place a lower court victory for the Republican-led state. Circuit Court of Appeals in favor of Texas on the question of whether a federal law concerning emergency room care in some cases trumps state abortion restrictions. In the meantime, a lower court ruling that allows emergency room doctors to perform abortion in some situations remains in place. The administration appealed to the Supreme Court, but asked the justices to hold the case until it decided the Idaho dispute. Over the summer, Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar urged the court to throw out the appeals court ruling so that new developments could be considered afresh.

In a post on X, the musician-writer-actor-director-producer said that after his show in New Orleans he was hospitalized due to an ailment. Jeff Landry confirmed his support on Tuesday of restarting the tradition of bringing Louisiana State University’s live tiger mascot onto the football field ahead of home games. For years, the school’s live mascot would ride through the stadium in a travel trailer “topped by the LSU cheerleaders” before home games, based on information about the mascot on the LSU Athletics’ webpage. Following the death of the school’s tiger, Mike VI, in 2016, LSU announced that future Mike the Tigers would no longer be brought onto the field. In the past, animal rights groups have called on LSU to stop keeping live tiger mascots. Louisiana is not the only school that is home to a live mascot.
