Washington CNN —Special counsel Robert Hur released a searing report Thursday that concluded President Joe Biden willfully retained and disclosed classified military and national security information but recommended he not face charges after a yearlong investigation into his handling of classified documents. According to the report, Biden – during the 2023 interview – did not remember when his son Beau died nor the years he was vice president. New York CNN —Tesla CEO Elon Musk has a new social media target: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. Following Musk’s recent critical posts about DEI policies and racial discrimination lawsuits against Tesla, the electric car company has omitted all language regarding minority workers and outreach to minority communities in its 10-K filing with the SEC made January 29. In Musk’s eyes, DEI is “just as morally wrong as any other racism and sexism,” he tweeted in December. And as recently as 2020, Tesla had been publishing its own corporate DEI reports, reaffirming its commitment to the mission. NEW YORK (AP) — Christopher Nolan was still sleeping when his film, “Oppenheimer," landed a leading 13 Academy Awards nominations Tuesday. “Oppenheimer,” Nolan's sprawling American saga of J. Walter Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb, has more or less been the Oscar frontrunner since it made its acclaimed debut in late July. It came one nomination shy of tying the record for best Oscar nominations ever. “It's flabbergasting," said Thomas who spoke with her husband in an interview a few hours after nominations were announced. And so I think that’s something that really touched audiences.

"A land value tax would fix that" has become a popular, and sometimes comedic, Twitter response to a range of policy conundrums among urbanists and YIMBYs. It would incentivize landowners to maximize the revenue from their property — building an apartment building instead of, for example, a parking lot. And because rich individuals and corporations own most land in cities and towns, land taxes would disproportionately fall on the wealthiest. Pure Georgists advocate for abolishing all taxes besides land value taxes. Instead, they want to see more regressive levies — like sales taxes — or those that penalize investment — like property taxes — reduced.

As the National Audubon Society recovers from a referendum to change its name in light of the fact that America’s founding birder was a slave owner (the name stayed), a luxe reissue of John James Audubon’s magnum opus, BIRDS OF AMERICA (Abbeville, $195), proves the man’s artistry itself unimpeachable. His paintings foretold the ambitions of the camera, and at only a quarter of the size of the four-volume folio that was first published between 1827 and 1838, this still hefty edition preserves the poetic backdrops and fierce detail of the original. The copperplate lines are so exact they mimic the individual venation of feathers; the neck of a gyrfalcon takes on all the ripply realism of moiréd silk.

If today someone were to compose 'The Four Seasons' from an absolutely realistic perspective, it would be frankly daring," composer and producer Hache Costa told Reuters. It will be accompanied by projected images of wildfires and other effects of climate change, such as drought. Scientists have linked searing temperatures and dry and windy conditions in many parts of the world, including southern Europe, to climate change. Ernesto Rodriguez Camino, president of the Spanish meteorology association, said the impact of climate change in Spain was evident.

Was the Emerson the Emerson to the end? “We were afraid of going on too long,” Setzer said recently, and Sunday suggested that he, Drucker and Dutton have stopped at the timeliest of moments, without cause for regret. Nobody could pretend that Sunday saw the Emerson reclaim the heights from which it conquered chamber music, though it was hardly far-off. If its most celebrated predecessors, the Juilliard after World War II and the Guarneri later on, were responsible for a boom in American quartet playing, then it was the Emerson’s part to demonstrate how accomplished a quartet could become. It did not take the Emerson long to set the formidable technical standards that we take for granted among chamber musicians today.

Gross, who runs the movie consulting firm Franchise Entertainment Research, said of the “Killers of the Flower Moon” launch. The procurement team, responsible for sourcing and pricing the services the company buys, can introduce significant barriers to enterprise startups. Sellers must navigate a thicket of data concerns and increasing price sensitivities, among other issues, with procurement teams that may have little familiarity with AI. Enterprise software deals are taking longer to close compared with last year, per a September survey from New York-based SAAS financing startup Capchase. "That's leading procurement teams to ask sellers 'what works here, tell me where I could have unanticipated outcomes?'" Nemeth said procurement teams want to be educated and help see deals through.

And you thought Barbie’s creation myth was head-spinning! “Poor Things,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival on Friday, often plays like a wild, art-house remix of Greta Gerwig’s blockbuster doll opus. But this is no family film: As baby-brained Bella starts to come of age, her lack of inhibitions steers her toward sexual situations that had the Venice moviegoer next to me squirming in his seat. Quite literally a child in a woman’s body, Bella can barely string words together and is given to shocking outbursts. It gained further international attention with the release last fall of Netflix’s “Vatican Girl” docuseries by filmmaker Mark Lewis. Among the documents was correspondence between Agostino Casaroli, then Vatican secretary of state, and a Colombian priest who had been the spiritual guide and confessor of the Orlandi family. Now the Orlandi family fears that the Vatican dossier does not include investigatory leads they hoped the Rome prosecutor would follow – primarily that the Vatican was somehow involved.
