More than a third of all U.S. adults have a side hustle, recent data shows.
The people who make the most money have something in common: lots of emotional intelligence.
"A gigantic portion of [side hustle] work involves emotional intelligence pretty heavily," says M.K., who ran Austin-based customer experience consulting firm The Heart Company for eight years before joining Indeed.
The more you understand what other people need in their lives, the more you can build your product or service to be a useful solution, he notes.
"I think [emotional intelligence] is going to be a big pillar of the future of work, especially with AI taking care of a lot of operational things," M.K.
