A three-kilometer-long (1.8-mile) cycling and pedestrian tunnel has been blasted through the base of Løvstakken mountain and its makers say it’s the longest purpose-built tunnel of its kind. But there's a glaring catch to my support for pay transparency: I haven't actually practiced it in my own life. To find out why, I decided to commemorate the dawning age of salary transparency by telling pretty much everyone in my life what I earn. Norway responded to pay transparency with yet another level of transparency, and that brought down the level of snooping.. Thanks to its nationwide experiment, Norway has been fertile ground for scholars trying to measure the consequences of extreme pay transparency. But I do believe that as more states implement pay-disclosure laws — and as Gen Z increasingly comes to dominate the workforce — salary transparency is going to become the new norm.

I've budgeted $50,000 for travel in 2019, and I'm not the least bit sorry. That said, we also choose to spend on travel over other things, like living in a bigger home or driving fancier cars. Keep in mind though, we would spend considerably more on travel (or need to travel less) if not for points and miles. Travel is a learning experienceMy kids are 8 and 10 years old, and our travel experiences have exposed them to so much history. The bottom lineWhile $50,000 is a lot of money to spend on travel (or anything, really), I don't regret our travel splurges at all.
