So long as you pay the annual fee, many hotel credit cards offer one free night each year. Before discovering free night credits, I stayed at my fair share of motels with rock-hard beds and paper-thin walls. However, as my life and finances evolved, the benefit of my free night certificates has become about more than saving money. My hotel credit card collectionYou probably don’t need eight hotel cards. Key perks: Annual free night award, fourth night free on consecutive award redemptions, automatic IHG® Platinum status, $100 trusted traveler program application fee credit every four years.

These 11 Videogames Make Working Out Actually Fun

GAME ON In ‘Beat Saber,’ your hands become lightsabers that you use to slash neon arrows as they fly towards you in rhythm with popular music. Photo: Beat GamesWE OFTEN ASSOCIATE videogames with lethargy—a group of snackers sitting around a screen. Enter: so-called “Exergames,” a portmanteau of “exercise games,” which make movement part of the play, so that even working out can be fun. Some titles of the genre can be played on your phone, great for novice gamers who aren’t ready to invest in a gaming console. The best, however, usually require controllers that can track motion—as with the Nintendo Switch and Sony PlayStation 5.

Oct. 17, 2023Early into his newest adventure, Mario transforms into a large elephant. It’s not a costume like those in previous Super Mario video games, where acrobatics are imbued in the cat suits, penguin wings and frog legs worn by the Mushroom Kingdom’s savior. Zowie!”That peculiar power-up, which lets Mario use his trunk to swat enemies and water benevolent flowers, is just one spectacle in the eccentric Super Mario Bros. Wonder, which arrives Friday for the Nintendo Switch. But by turning its star into an elephant, Nintendo is also acknowledging a simple fact of its Goomba-stomping, Koopa-kicking empire: Mario himself is a little boring. The smorgasbord of power-ups is what keeps players excited.

Insider Today: Big banks are screwed
  + stars: | 2023-09-14 | by ( Dan Defrancesco | ) www.businessinsider.com   time to read: +8 min
It's the latest example of the pressure big banks are under to keep their place atop Wall Street. Before the announcement, the bank's share price was down almost 9% this year, trailing all of its fellow big bank peers in the US except Bank of America. Citi's overhaul represents how big banks are scrambling to stay on top of a financial world passing them by. CEO Jamie Dimon recently quipped he "wouldn't be a big buyer of a bank" in reference to proposed regulations requiring big banks to keep more money on the sidelines. Whether it's fintechs or so-called shadow banks, there's no shortage of players looking to offer services previously dominated by big banks.

'Zelda' sales breakout juices Nintendo's aging Switch

Attendees use a Nintendo Switch game console while playing a video game at the Paris Games Week (PGW), a trade fair for video games in Paris, France, October 29, 2019. Nintendo said it sold 18.51 million units of "Tears of the Kingdom" in the first quarter. The results underscore Nintendo's success in extending the life of the aging Switch system, which has sold almost 130 million units, and using its roster of popular characters to boost revenue beyond the core gaming business. The Kyoto-based gaming firm maintained its full-year forecast for the console of 15 million units, which would be a 16.5% decline on a year earlier. First-quarter operating profit leapt 82% on a year earlier to 185.4 billion yen with sales of first-party software at record highs.

Netflix launched its video game streaming service in November 2021, investing in mobile app games. The pivot to interactive streaming comes as Netflix's growth has slowed to single digits. As Netflix chases younger audiences and grapples with keeping its current subscribers content, the streaming giant has fixed its sights on a new chapter: video games. In late 2021, Netflix began dabbling in creating its mobile app games. The pivot to video games comes as Netflix's growth has slowed tremendously — according to records kept by Stock Analysis, the company's annual growth had never been below 12% until last year.

CNN —A federal judge will not block Microsoft (MSFT) from closing its $69 billion deal to acquire video game giant Activision Blizzard, a defeat for US regulators who had asked for a temporary injunction while legal challenges to the merger unfold. Microsoft could potentially finalize the deal with Activision in a matter of days, ahead of a July 18 contractual deadline, or the parties could mutually seek to extend that timeframe. During a five-day hearing last month in federal court, Microsoft executives including CEO Satya Nadella testified that properties such as “Call of Duty” would not be restricted from competitors following the deal’s close. UK officials also previously moved to block the Activision merger in April, citing some of the same concerns the FTC raised in its case and triggering an appeal from Microsoft. “Microsoft and Activision have agreed with the CMA that a stay of the litigation in the UK would be in the public interest and the parties have made a joint submission … to this effect.”
