"John Wick" might never have gone on to become a billion-dollar-grossing film franchise if not for the financial intervention of Eva Longoria, the original film's directors revealed this week. There's no bigger stage in baseball than a World Series between the New York Yankees and the Los Angeles Dodgers, and there's no bigger star than Japanese slugger Shohei Ohtani. The 30-year-old's ability to hit mammoth home runs, pitch over 100 mph and steal bases with ease got him a $700 million contract from the Dodgers this past offseason. But despite his on-field exploits, the 30-year-old is also known for being one of the most humble players in the league. It's an approach that was instilled in him when he was just a promising high school athlete. For the players, who dormed at the school during the season, this included being assigned chores.

One of the National Football League's toughest competitions doesn't take place anywhere near a football field. For the seventh year in a row, data scientists and analytics buffs will be invited to test their mettle against each other in the league's Big Data Bowl, powered by Amazon Web Services. The competition's goal is to distill the copious amounts of data collected from every player during every NFL game into stats and insights that the league and its teams can learn from. The Big Data Bowl was first introduced by the NFL in 2018 and quickly became a fertile proving ground for teams to find bright minds to add to their front offices. This year's competition challenges participants to use data collected before the ball is snapped to help predict what an offense or defense is going to do during a given play.

James Earl Jones' line readings as the iconic "Star Wars" villain Darth Vader have gone down in film history, but for the late thespian it was less than a day's work. The actor, who died this week at the age of 93, revealed in a 1995 interview that the process of recording the lines for his now-iconic character barely took longer than the two-hour runtime of the film. "We spent about two and a half hours to do Darth Vader," he said on Late Night with Conan O'Brien. On top of that, Jones considered himself lucky to be receiving what he considered to be a sizable paycheck for such a short workday. Indeed, because he was only providing Darth Vader's voice while actor David Prowse wore the famous black costume, Jones asked to not be credited on the film.
