CNN —The US military is developing portable UFO detection kits to collect better data on reports of sightings as the Pentagon says there is no evidence of alien technology found in any government investigation. The AARO office looked at US government investigations and efforts related to UFOs dating back to 1945. Some of the reported sightings of UFOs were people who unknowingly witnessed the testing or use of classified US technology. The AARO office is also collecting and investigating new reports and sightings of unidentified objects. In February, the office closed 122 cases, Phillips said, most of which was debris in the atmosphere.

An executive order to be signed by President Biden will bolster maritime cybersecurity by making sure all critical port infrastructure that is owned and operated adheres to international and industry recognized safety regulations. The Biden official said that the new Supply Chain Resilience Center, announced last November, will be included in efforts to enhance port security. In addition to the new rules and regulations, $20 billion will be used to strengthen U.S. port infrastructure through the Investing in America Agenda. These cranes have been a focus of debate among national security experts and port officials in recent years. Over the long term, senior Biden administration officials said they would like to invest in the onshoring of port crane manufacturing.

Recruiters working with Michael Gelband's ExodusPoint no longer need to track down the hiring manager every time they find a compelling candidate. The multi-strategy manager told its recruiting partners in an email blast that the new process for submitting candidates will be through Greenhouse, the TPG Growth-backed jobs board. Gelband's former boss, Millennium founder Izzy Englander, deemed it a "talent bubble," as firms poach portfolio managers, analysts, and software engineers from each other — driving up compensation industrywide. ExodusPoint's decision to push its external recruiting network to an online portal comes as the firm integrates more than 35 new portfolio managers into its strategy over the last 12 months. Those teams will need analysts, researchers, and developers to support its growing army of portfolio managers, and the firm, like its peers, is always hunting for top-performing PMs.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, California (AP) — From underwater drones to electronic warfare, the U.S. is expanding its high-tech military cooperation with Australia and the United Kingdom as part of a broader effort to counter China’s rapidly growing influence in the Indo-Pacific. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin met with defense chiefs from Australia and the United Kingdom at the U.S. military’s defense technology hub in Silicon Valley on Friday to forge a new agreement to increase technology cooperation and information sharing. The three nations have laid out plans for the so-called AUKUS partnership to help equip Australia with a fleet of eight nuclear-powered submarines. AUKUS is an acronym for Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. He added that as an island nation, Australia has a need for improved maritime drones and precision strike capabilities.

I followed Hallam's advice and invested in index and bond funds, and my portfolio has grown consistently for four years. I keep a ratio of 70% stock funds and 30% bond funds, with an even split between international and domestic stocks. If stock market index funds are unsexy, then bonds are flat-out frumpy. Dips in the stock market. In a wildly volatile year, when the stock market is moving by 20% or more, you could absolutely get in more frequently to try to rebalance your ratios.

The worst things you can do with an inheritance are spend it on assets you can't maintain, sit on it, or invest it all in one place. The wisest thing you can do is speak to a financial planner, preferably before you even inherit the money. It's easy to assume that receiving a large sum of money, like an inheritance, can change your financial situation forever. "On average, an inheritance is gone within five years of receiving it, unless it is invested in financial assets or housing equity," said financial planner Shala L. Walker of Mar Vista Investment Partners. Instead, Walker recommends speaking to a financial planner as soon as possible for help deciding what to do with your cash, including investing it in a diversified portfolio.

Investors feared that the coffee maker's long-term targets of 10% to 12% revenue growth and 15% to 20% earnings growth were in jeopardy. And as the market lost confidence in the targets, Starbucks' stock price fell to $90 a share by the start of October — when we most recently added to our position — down from around $100 in August. But on Thursday following the results, investors heard a much more compelling story from Starbucks — forcefully pushing back against the bear case. The power of Starbucks' brand is driving strong traffic and sales growth, despite the uncertain macroeconomic environment. As such, we reiterate our 1 rating , meaning we would be buyers of Starbucks stock at these levels.

Overseas sales last month by Asia's fourth-largest economy rose 5.1% year-on-year to $55.09 billion, trade data showed on Wednesday. By destination, exports to the United States gained 17.3%, the most since May 2022, while China-bound shipments fell 9.5%, the least in 13 months. Exports of cars rose 19.8%, extending gains to a 16th straight month, while petroleum products also jumped 18.0%, after seven straight months of decline. Semiconductor shipments fell for the 15th consecutive month, but the 3.1% drop in October was the smallest in the streak. In October, South Korea's factory activity contracted for the 16th straight month, but the decline in new export orders softened, another survey showed on Wednesday.

The new portals, equipped with high-speed cameras, will take hundreds of pictures of every passing locomotive and rail car. Unlike previous versions, these new inspection portals will be able to capture all sides of a train that passes through them with well-lit images. University of Delaware professor Allan Zarembski, who leads the Railroad Engineering and Safety Program there, said it's significant that Norfolk Southern is investing in so many of the portals. The Atlanta-based railroad didn't say how much it is investing in the technology it worked with Georgia Tech to develop. The office has received approximately 800 reports of unidentified objects to investigate as of this past April, up from 650 reports in August 2022, Sean Kirkpatrick, who heads the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office at the Pentagon told CNN. “I am worried from a national security perspective.”But Kirkpatrick could offer few details about why certain reports raised suspicions about foreign involvement. The portal for historical sightings is set to open sometime in the next month or so, Kirkpatrick told CNN. Its purpose is to validate or refute past reports of unidentified objects, checking them against other reports and cataloging them for possible further analysis. Asked if the US government should have created an effort to handle unidentified objects earlier, Kirkpatrick demurred.

Experts say this initial response may expose Beijing’s limited influence in the region, despite official propaganda talking up China as the world’s new peacemaker. Yuval Waks, a senior official at the Israeli Embassy in Beijing, said his country expected a “stronger condemnation” of Hamas from China. State media coverageDespite its claims of neutrality, coverage of the conflict on China’s state-run television appears more slanted. Chinese state media were also quick to blame the US for the conflict now raging in the heart of the Middle East. “China looks at Israel as an opportunity to get points with the broader Arab world and the rest of the developing world.

Russia's move of its Black Sea Fleet to safer waters signals its waning power there, experts told Insider. AdvertisementAdvertisementRussia's withdrawal of ships from a key Crimean base to safer ports shows it has "clearly lost its control" over the Black Sea in naval and geopolitical terms, a top naval expert told Insider. Pointing to those attacks, James Heappey, a UK defense minister, said during a defense event in Warsaw last Tuesday that the move signaled the "functional defeat" of the Black Sea Fleet. As of Sunday, multiple ships carrying grain, sunflower oil, and metals had sailed out of Ukraine's ports in the northwestern Black Sea, The Guardian reported. The message is one more indication of the political and security challenges the U.S.-Mexico border has presented for President Joe Biden. The Biden administration this week took two actions seen by many as moving to the right on immigration. The White House counters that migration has surged across the Western Hemisphere due to regional challenges out of the administration's control. So they are on the streets.”Despite his 2020 promises on the border, Biden has long been more moderate on the issue than some in his party. It hasn’t worked for them before and it won’t work for them this cycle either,” said Pili Tobar, a former senior Biden White House official and Democratic strategist.

But lawmakers want to test him - particularly those from left-leaning groups that have recently clashed with centre-right lawmakers seeking to weaken some green policies. "We must ensure that the Commission sticks to its commitments on the Green Deal and avoids backsliding as right-wing politicians up their attacks on climate policies," Green lawmaker Philippe Lamberts said. Some lawmakers have questioned whether his previous roles equip him to lead climate policy. "Every day there's a new article or a story or disruption taking place," Andrew Howard, a partner at Shamrock Capital, told Insider this summer about the firm's media strategies. Shamrock, which is based in California, pursues strategies in the private markets, mainly through equity or debt-based investments. Founded as a family office in the late 1970s for members of the Disney family, the firm has blossomed into an institutional investor exclusively focused on media, entertainment, and communications. Howard likened the speed of today's transformations to the dot-com arms race that defined the Internet landscape two decades ago. "We're coaching kids whose parents are running major studios and companies within media and entertainment," Howard said.

The iPhone 15 features a USB-C port instead of the Lightning port which has been standard for more than decade. YouTuber Marques Brownlee says the new port lets the iPhone 15 transfer battery power to older iPhones. iPhone 15 devices can also communicate with each other to figure out which has a lower battery level, he said. AdvertisementAdvertisementInsider also tested this feature by plugging in the iPhone 15 Pro to an iPhone 13 Pro and noticed that the iPhone 15 Pro acted as a power bank and automatically started charging the iPhone 13. When Insider connected the iPhone 15 Pro to the iPhone 15, the two devices performed a handshake to recognize that the iPhone 15 had a much higher battery charge, and the iPhone 15 then started charging the iPhone 15 Pro.
