Former President Donald J. Trump’s silence to some extent reflects his desire for President Biden to stay in the race. But Mr. Trump has largely sat back and allowed the Democratic Party to dominate the debate over Mr. Biden’s political future, in a signal of his preferred opponent. Mr. Trump did appear to delight in mocking his rival in a raw video first reported by The Daily Beast on Wednesday and later shared by Mr. Trump. If Mr. Biden stepped aside, Mr. Trump would lose two lines of attack that have been central to his campaign. That message would be hamstrung if another candidate replaced Mr. Biden on the ticket.

London CNN —Facebook parent Meta has been accused of breaking Europe’s new digital competition rules over its “pay or consent” advertising model. Late last year, Meta (META) launched a service called “Subscription for no ads,” allowing European users of Facebook and Instagram to pay up to €12.99 ($14) a month for ad-free versions. The alternative is to accept versions with personalized ads. “’Subscription for no ads’ follows the direction of the highest court in Europe and complies with the DMA,” a Meta company spokesperson told CNN. “We look forward to further constructive dialogue with the European Commission to bring this investigation to a close.”This is a developing story and will be updated.

A new endorsement of Starbucks from a top Wall Street research firm doesn't budge our skepticism about the coffee giant's ability to deal with the multiple challenges holding back its stock. Goldman Sachs on Thursday initiated coverage of Club name Starbucks with a buy rating and a $100-per-share price target. That price target represents more than 25% upside to the prior session's close. That night, we downgraded the stock to a 2 rating and cut our price target to $90 per share. Bitcoin's "halving" is expected to happen soon. But its potential impact depends on your relationship to the coin; it's likely to affect miners and investors differently. "To the people who own bitcoin because they think it's a good store of value, this halving is not that big of a deal. Miners receive bitcoins, known as block rewards, for verifying and validating transactions and helping keep the blockchain network secure. What the bitcoin halving may mean for investorsWhile the halving itself doesn't directly impact bitcoin's price, investors' anticipation of the event can lead to highly erratic price movements, says Douglas Boneparth, a certified financial planner and president of Bone Fide Wealth.
