Super Micro Computer emerged as an investor darling early this year, as Wall Street unearthed the stock, driving it higher with gains that rivalled even Nvidia's. After Nvidia reported blockbuster earnings last Wednesday, Super Micro's shares were rocky again. The prominence of data centers in the AI boom is another tailwind for Super Micro, BofA noted, given the cooling needs of such centers. BofA reiterated its buy rating on Super Micro, giving it a price target of $1,090, or potential upside of about 23%. In a May 20 note, JPMorgan said it has an overweight rating on Super Micro.

That's not a lot of wiggle room if the stock reacts negatively to earnings: if the stock undercuts $915 (and stays below it), the breakout would be nullified. In other words, if an upside gap is filled this time instead, the market could be telling us that something has changed. In other words, NVDA has had many years of success both as a company and as a stock. It would take a lot more than a reaction to a single earnings report to change that. BEFORE MAKING ANY FINANCIAL DECISIONS, YOU SHOULD STRONGLY CONSIDER SEEKING ADVICE FROM YOUR OWN FINANCIAL OR INVESTMENT ADVISOR.

One semiconductor supplier could win big from a strong outlook from chip giant Nvidia , according to Morgan Stanley. " TSMC is the sole supplier for NVDA AI GPU, so we view NVDA's July-quarter revenue guidance, due on May 22, as a key catalyst," wrote analyst Charlie Chan. "We would expect TSMC's share price to rise if NVDA's guidance were to beat expectations." Investors will closely monitor Nvidia's July revenue guidance, which the market regards as one of the most significant indicators of AI server demand. U.S.-listed shares of Taiwan Semiconductor have rallied 47% this year.

Nvidia's earnings release is front and center this week as the beloved chipmaker should determine the short-term direction of U.S. equities. Led by the $2.3 trillion behemoth Nvidia (NVDA) , semiconductors have been on fire in 2024 after a dramatic outperformance in 2023. I want to implement a hedge using the popular VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) which has a near 21% weighting to Nvidia. The largest ETF to hold NVDA is the SPDR S & P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) , with a 5.1% allocation or about $28 billion in market value. It can (and has) propel NVDA higher in a faster manner, but it also can amplify a move lower (if that is possible for the AI darling, NVDA).

Wall Street has great expectations for Nvidia 's earnings on Wednesday, according to Evercore ISI. Yet, how the artificial intelligence darling's stock will react is less clear — and it is likely to have big implications for the entire stock market, the firm said. The share price reaction will likely cause a ripple effect, he said. Over the past year, Nvidia's stock has had an "almost unimaginably close" day-to-day correlation to the S & P 500 of 0.95, he pointed out. which helped catalyze 2023's S & P 500 Fall Fall … the one certain thing is that NVDA's share price reaction, while difficult to gauge, will have consequences for the S & P 500 as a whole," Emanuel said.

Nvidia is poised for even bigger gains from current prices, according to Morgan Stanley Wealth Management. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management currently has an overweight rating on Nvidia. Morgan Stanley Wealth Management's $1,000 price target implies that the stock could rise another 21%. Nvidia shares sell for a "valuation in line with historical trough multiples," and its growth potential justifies a higher valuation, Morgan Stanley said. Additionally, a growing AI tailwind could provide even more ammunition for Nvidia stock to balloon.

That's over a 2000% gain, compared to 83% for the S & P 500. While the absolute numbers were uninspiring, the relative performance, versus the S & P 500, was even more discouraging. Of the 49 double-bagger-plus names, only 21, or 43%, outperformed the S & P in the next year, with 28, or 57% underperforming. It generally relies on earnings growth, often before those profits emerge, but eventually as the company's sustaining force. Does that mean buying NVDA is safe, because of that earnings growth rate?

While the Nvidia (NVDA) gravy train may seem to have left the station for many, Qualcomm (QCOM) remains a compelling alternative for investors hungry to participate in the AI revolution. While specifics about Windows 12 remain murky, the integration of AI-specific features hints at a significant focus on AI hardware. This aligns well with Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform, which is already primed for AI integration and extends into various industries. To go bullish on QCOM, the trade structure I have used here is called a "bull call spread".
