Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani hit his 50th home run and stole his 50th base of the season Thursday, becoming the first MLB player to reach both benchmarks in the same season. Ohtani entered Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins with 48 home runs and 49 stolen bases. He stole two bases to reach 51 and knocked out three homers — one in the sixth inning, another in the seventh and a final in the ninth — to reach 51. Ohtani finished the game 6-for-6 with three home runs and 10 RBIs. Entering Thursday, Ohtani ranked sixth in Wins Above Replacement, one of only six players with WARs above 7.0Ohtani signed a 10-year, $700 million contract with Los Angeles before this season.

A 50-50 season consists of 50+ home runs and 50+ stolen bases in a single season. The historic accomplishment comes after Ohtani faced a personally difficult start to his time in Los Angeles. In Tuesday's 9th inning of the Padres-Astros game, Altuve appeared to foul a ball off his left foot. However, umpires ruled the ball never hit his foot and Altuve was subsequently thrown out at first base. The Padres and Astros each had costly wild pitches, great defensive plays, clutch hits and plenty of frustration with the umpires. Replays seemed to show the ball missed Profar, Profar appeared to be upset that he wouldn’t have the chance to bat and the Astros bench couldn’t believe the call. As the umpires walked off the field, there was plenty of chirping and chatter directed at them by both teams.

Shares of Dutch food delivery marketplace Just Eat Takeaway.com could more than double over the next 12 months, according to Jefferies analysts. Jefferies remains bullish on Just Eat, even as the company's U.S. business Grubhub has faced the pressures of government price controls imposed on restaurants since the Covid-19 pandemic. Just Eat expects a $100 million EBITDA impact from the amending of the fee caps, the Jefferies note reported. Shares of the delivery firm have also moved away from their high during the Covid pandemic, and are now down 18.1% year-to-date and 22.5% in the last 12 months. The Red Sox said Williams died Friday at AdventHealth North Pinellas Hospital in Tarpon Springs, Florida, after a brief illness. But the Marlins sold off veterans and tumbled to 54-108 in 1998, and Leyland left for the Rockies.
