Trump Media CEO Devin Nunes on Friday said he would "do whatever it takes" to defend the company's retail investors from possible illegal short selling of its shares. Delivering remarks in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday, Biden took a dig at Donald Trump, his November Republican election opponent, as shares of Trump Media tanked from its more than $70 debut price. Trump Media's stock, trading under the ticker DJT , rallied toward the end of this week, but has plummeted starkly from its peak. It involves a trader selling shares that have not been borrowed or arranged to be borrowed. Nunes said that Trump Media has appeared on the Nasdaq's "Reg SHO threshold list," which could indicate illegal trading behavior.

Analysts expect the S & P 500 to have a year-over-year earnings growth rate of 3.2%, FactSet data shows. If that's the case, it would mark the third consecutive quarter of earnings growth. The reporting period could also be a good time for tactical opportunities in the stock market. The bank also expects these names to see sharp moves after posting earnings, based on what the options market shows. The options market implies a 4.1% move for Nasdaq on after the April 25 report is released.

Seasonally speaking, stocks could be in for a pullback as the calendar turns to March in a presidential election year. In every March since 1950, the S & P 500 historically rises 1.1%, but the same month in presidential election years scores a smaller 0.4% advance on average. Currently, the S & P 500 is trading around the 5,100 level. But Hirsch advised investors to watch S & P 500 support levels closer to 4,800, the prior all-time high, or 4,600, the high from the summer of 2023. That's because Hirsch anticipates the S & P 500 will rise to 5,500 by year end, so any dips may prove a buying opportunity for investors.

But can the momentum continue for AI stocks continue? But our estimates could prove to be conservative in light of recent developments like Open AI's text-to-video model Sora and management commentary from Nvidia," Marcelli said. Both Microsoft and Alphabet reported increased cloud revenue growth thanks to AI, and revenue from their AI models and applications should see significant growth in the next five years, she said. "Given the strong AI-related tailwinds, we see 18% year-over-year earnings growth in 2024 for the global tech sector, including information technology and internet," Marcelli said. 2 trades to ride the AI waveTo take advantage of further AI upside, Marcelli said UBS prefers two market subsectors: semiconductors and software.

A federal appeals court agreed to rehear a challenge by two conservative groups to Nasdaq's board diversity rule related to the disclosure of women and minority membership on boards of companies listed on the stock exchange. The 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, in its order Monday night setting a rehearing, also vacated a decision in October upholding the Nasdaq rule by a three-judge panel from the appeals court, which encompasses Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. The Nasdaq rule requires companies to disclose details about the diversity of their boards of directors, and to either have a minimum number of women and minorities on their boards or explain why they do not. "NASDAQ's rule promotes racial discrimination and polarizing personal disclosures and it is to be hoped that this rule is struck down," Blum said. The SEC and Nasdaq did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the rehearing order.

While some investors are concerned that exchange-traded funds with options overlays could limit returns, experts see a key benefit at play. Here is a bearish contrarian trade using options on an over-extended tech stock. MDB is clearly in a bull run, so although I am considering a bearish trade here, I also need to be aware of the price levels which may act as support for the stock. If the stock does go into a pullback, I have shown 3 important levels where the stock is most likely to bounce back. So my long strike would be above the current price and the short strike would be below the current price. If MDB trades at or below my short strike by the expiration date, this trade can yield a 100% ROI on the amount risked.

If these tech giants disappoint in their earnings outlook, that would be enough reason for this rally to fizzle out, and Nasdaq could finally see a pullback. Here's a 6-month daily chart of the Invesco QQQ Trust (QQQ) ,which closely follows Nasdaq's price movement and can be used as a proxy to trade tech stocks. You may find trading platforms using other names like "put debit spread" or "long put spread," but they all mean the same. I did this because this trade is designed as a hedge against disappointing tech earnings, which are all happening this week, so I don't need a longer expiration date. QQQ 6M mountain QQQ, 6 months Since this trade is taken as a hedge, the expectation should be that if the markets don't tank after tech earnings, I will lose my initial investment.

The company was set to erase more than $40 billion in market capitalization if losses hold, based on its current share price of $482.20. Nvidia, which has been at the forefront of artificial intelligence developments with its tailor-made graphics processing units, said its China business will take a hit from tighter export controls. Still, it forecast current-quarter revenue of $20 billion, plus or minus 2%, beating analysts' average estimate by more than $2 billion, according to LSEG data. The group usually has one active case against financial regulators, but currently has two against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and one against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), he said. To be sure, the financial regulators have been sued many times during previous administrations, including by pro-reform advocacy groups. "There are some financial regulators that are walking right into it," he added. In September, for example, bank groups accused regulators including the Federal Reserve of violating the APA with a new capital rule. According to research by Wharton School professor David Zaring, neither industry groups nor individual lenders have filed more than one suit over the past decade challenging Fed policymaking.
