The attacks come a day after Kyiv said it seriously damaged a Russian submarine and landing ship undergoing repairs in a missile strike on a shipyard in the Crimean port of Sevastopol, home to the Russian Black Sea Fleet. The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed an attack on the Sergei Kotov in a morning statement, but said the assault involving five sea drones was repelled. An expert told Insider the West's piecemeal rollout gave Russia time to adapt to each weapons system. His fears stem from several months of back-and-forth with Musk about the use of Starlink internet in the war against Russia. Mykhailo Fedorov told The Times that Starlink has become the "blood" of Ukrainian communication infrastructure. Starlink satellites, then, are invaluable resources — but also ones that Fedorov told The Times he's worried Ukraine has become overdependent on. In September 2022, Ukrainian officials revealed Musk had blocked Starlink internet access in Russian-occupied Crimea, citing concerns about escalating the conflict.

Zelenskyy told reporters Wednesday that he thinks Ukraine can defeat Russia within one year. Few experts predict that Ukraine can achieve victory over Russia quickly, if at all. NATO said in 2008 that Ukraine could join at a future date, but declined its September 2022 request for "fast-track" membership.
