The hottest ticket at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival was not for the new auteur film from Hayao Miyazaki or Ryusuke Hamaguchi, the latest vehicle for Kate Winslet or Sean Penn, or grand prizewinners at Cannes and Venice. No, the most feverishly in-demand screening was for a 39-year-old movie that everyone in its sold-out audience could have watched at home, at the push of a button. “Stop Making Sense,” directed by Jonathan Demme, is widely considered to be one of the finest examples of the form, a joyful documentation (and celebration) of Talking Heads’ 1983 tour supporting their album “Speaking in Tongues.” The Toronto festival screening marked the debut of A24’s new restoration of the film ahead of its theatrical and IMAX rerelease later this month. “This is the greatest concert film ever!” he enthused with the musicians sitting next to him. That reunion was an event in itself, following what the frontman David Byrne recently described, with characteristic understatement, as an “ugly” breakup in 1991.

Honoree Japanese film director and animator Hayao Miyazaki poses during the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governors Awards in Los Angeles, California November 8, 2014. "There is nothing concrete on the table yet, but he shows the willingness to create something new," Nishioka said, adding that Miyazaki, is at the studio everyday. In Toronto, film buffs and movie fans lined up for the movie, the first time an animated Japanese film opened the festival. The movie is also inspired by how Miyazaki himself felt after the war and coped with the loss of his mother. "This is a personal film, showing how he (Miyazaki) lived, how he should have lived and throwing out the question to the audience, 'So how do you live?

For Miyazaki, who painstakingly crafts thousands of hand drawings for a film, it's a long and laborious process. Several of Miyazaki's films rank among the biggest box-office hits ever in Japan; there are few other filmmakers today as revered — and fiercely beloved — as Miyazaki. “I am making this movie because I do not have the answer," Miyazaki told The New York Times in 2021. We are again, invited into a dizzyingly colorful otherworldly fantasy of Miyazaki's making. If this is to be the last Miyazaki movie (it would be unwise to ever really count him out), it's a tremendously moving goodbye.

And companies that get investments before Demo Day might regret it in the long run. Toe-toe-row!” B said, standing inside the tree, with the same intonation as the movie’s rousing, marching-band-style theme song. Notably, it was forbidden to put children on Totoro’s plush tummy, or to allow them to play inside the cat bus zone for longer than three minutes — even if the zone was not crowded, which it wasn’t. The staff members were friendly, but their rules made little sense for kids as small as ours. I wondered if that was another sign that Ghibli Park was still a bit rough around the edges. We grudgingly agreed to the no-tummy policy, but B wished to play nowhere else but inside the cat bus.

Gravitating towards the activities that spark this state of "flow" can lead you to your "ikigai," which is "the happiness of always being busy," say Héctor García and Francesc Miralles, authors of Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life. Many of the world's longest-lived people find their ikigai and prioritize it nearly every day of their lives. "There is no magic recipe for finding happiness, for living according to your ikigai," wrote García and Miralles. "But one key ingredient is the ability to reach this state of flow and, through this state, to have an 'optimal experience.'" Thankfully, there's a framework that you can follow to achieve a state of flow.

TOKYO, April 23 (Reuters) - The Group of Seven (G7) economic powers called on Sunday for the "extension, full implementation and expansion" of a critical deal to export Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea, the group's agriculture ministers said in a communique. Brokered by the United Nations and Turkey, the deal was signed in Istanbul last July, allowing Ukraine to export more than 27 million tonnes of grain from several of its Black Sea ports. In the communique after a two-day meeting in Miyazaki, Japan, the G7 agriculture ministers "recognised the importance" of the deal, saying: "We strongly support the extension, full implementation and expansion of (the Black Sea Grain Initiative) BSGI." G7 members "stand ready" to support recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, including by providing expertise in de-mining of agricultural land and reconstruction of agricultural infrastructure, the document said. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to discuss the Ukraine Black Sea grain export deal with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York this week.

The people who live inside airplanes

CNN —After losing her house to a fire, Jo Ann Ussery had a peculiar idea: to live in an airplane. She bought an old Boeing 727 that was destined for the scrapyard, had it shipped to a plot of land she already owned, and spent six months renovating, doing most of the work by herself. By the end, she had a fully functional home, with over 1,500 square feet of living space, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and even a hot tub – where the cockpit used to be. Although she wasn’t the first person to ever live in an airplane, her flawless execution of the project had an inspirational effect. Maybe the worst choice for a home.”As a result, Campbell had to work on the plane for a couple of years before being able to live in it.

There is some consolation, however, for fans who have followed Ms. Regan’s career from her Michelin-starred Chicago restaurant, Elizabeth, now closed, through her 2019 memoir, “Burn the Place,” an unflinching account of her farmhouse upbringing, her grappling with addiction and gender identity, and her emergence as a chef: Her new book, “Fieldwork” (Agate Midway), comes out Jan. 24.
