The founder of a far-right, unofficial Catholic media group has resigned for an unspecified violation of the organization's morality clause, the group said in a statement Tuesday. Michael Voris stepped down as president of St. Michael’s Media and Church Militant, a Michigan-based enterprise established to address what Voris’ official biography calls “the serious erosion of the Catholic faith in the last 50 years." “Michael Voris has been asked to resign for breaching the Church Militant morality clause,” the organization said in its statement. “I consider this a gift from God.”Church Militant is often critical of Pope Francis, and has elevated extremist voices like those of Milo Yiannopoulos and echoed popular refrains from mainstream conservatives. In 2017, a confidant of Pope Francis singled out Church Militant for criticism.

Parent Singapore Telecommunications (STEL.SI) announced the resignation of Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin days after a network-wide outage left nearly half of Australia's 26 million people without phone or internet for 12 hours. Appointed in April 2020, Rosmarin headed Optus through two national scandals that have tarnished the reputation of the telco giant. A massive data hack last year exposed the personal data of 10 million Australians and triggered a class action lawsuit and multiple investigations from regulators. Optus executives told the parliamentary hearing on Friday the telco provider had not foreseen a network-wide outage and so had no backup plan in place. Nov 20 (Reuters) - Australia's second-largest telco Optus' Chief Executive Officer Kelly Bayer Rosmarin has resigned, its parent Singapore Telecommunications (STEL.SI) said on Monday, days after a network-wide outage left nearly half the country without phone or internet for 12 hours. Optus has appointed Chief Financial Officer Michael Venter as interim CEO. Peter Kaliaropoulos was appointed to a newly created position of chief operating officer, SingTel added. More than 10 million Australians were hit by the 12-hour network blackout at the nation's second-largest telco for much of Wednesday, triggering fury and frustration among customers and raising wider concerns about the telecommunications infrastructure. A recent poll of 1,005 US adults found the average American spends 26 minutes a day reading and responding to group chats. For us to survive and thrive as humans, it's time to agree on the Definitive Etiquette of the Group Chat. The ultimate appeal of group chats — their necessity, really — is that they've become the only social media that's actually social. Group chats can become overwhelming, of course, especially as they creep into other apps and especially as they often duplicate participants. Don't talk about the group chat outside the group chat.

He encourages skeptical taxpayers to look at universal basic income from the same "selfish point of view." Among those who received a basic income in Stockton, California, the unemployment rate dropped by nearly 50%. With more data at hand than theoretical projection, the evidence is overwhelming: Universal basic income is working nearly universally. Promising as these pilot programs are, the chances of a truly universal basic income in America remain remote. As for Tydricka Lewis, basic income afforded her the latitude to start her own nonprofit.

Insider recently revealed that prominent bankruptcy judge David Jones was in a romantic relationship with a bankruptcy attorney. Both Jones and the attorney had involvement with the bankruptcy case of the prison healthcare company Corizon. Jones oversaw the settlement talks in Tehum's bankruptcy; Freeman represented YesCare — and signed off on Jones' appointment as mediator in May. "Judge Jones did not disclose his relationship with Ms. Freeman to the parties, to their counsel or to the bankruptcy judge who appointed Judge Jones," the misconduct complaint says. Already, the disclosure of Jones' relationship has encouraged the US Trustee to intervene.

A civil complaint alleges that federal bankruptcy judge David Jones, who mediated the Tehum bankruptcy, is in a romantic relationship with Elizabeth Freeman, who represented YesCare in the bankruptcy. Van Deelen's case was ultimately "removed" to Jones' bankruptcy court, according to Van Deelen's complaint. The document alleges that, while working the McDermott case, Freeman was Jones' "live-in girlfriend" in a home worth more than a million dollars. According to the complaint, the letter detailed the "corruption involving Judge David R. Jones" and his romantic relationship with Freeman. Mental strength sets England apart at World Cup - Vaughan
  + stars: | 2023-10-05 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
After following up their 2019 ODI title with victory in the Twenty20 World Cup last year, winning in India would mark England's "greatest period of sporting domination", Vaughan wrote in a Telegraph column on Wednesday. "They can do it because England are very tough mentally. "They generally blow teams away but when it gets spicy – such as the 2019 World Cup final and the must-win games in that tournament – they are mentally stronger than the rest." Vaughan said England have the "perfect" batting line-up, highlighting the even spread of right- and left-handers in their top order, but was worried about how the bowlers will adapt to the conditions. England begin their World Cup defence later on Thursday when they take on New Zealand in the tournament opener in Ahmedabad.

Reckless spending and radical policies created near-record inflation, soaring grocery bills, rising energy costs and skyrocketing interest and mortgage rates. That’s why we are barreling toward a shutdown rather than agreeing on a spending package to keep the federal government working. Worse, they seemingly live in an alternate reality where Republicans control the White House and the US Senate as well as the House of Representatives. My constituents sent me here to represent their interests, and let me tell you, no one wins in a government shutdown. Bipartisanship isn’t a sign of weakness, and it isn’t something to be derided; it’s a sign of a functional democracy.

SimpleClosure just raised a $1.5 million pre-seed funding round from Rex Salisbury and Vera Equity. The startup uses AI to automate the legal and procedural tasks for when a startup shuts down. The startup industry is predicted to be on the brink of a 'mass extinction event.' The numbers weren't looking good for the fintech startup, so one of the investors asked him to write a shutdown proposal. And when a business shuts down, incorrect winding-down procedures can add insult to injury in the form of fines, fees, and mistakes that can also affect customers and investors.

Two Gen Xers who moved to Austria from the US said they had more freedom and fewer anxieties. But after some thought, the 53-year-old decided to move up his retirement plans and relocate to his wife's home country of Austria. THOUGH SALIMA BOUFELFEL and Roberto Cowan are known in the fashion world as the owners of the influential vintage clothing boutique Desert Vintage, they’re historians at heart. Tucson natives, they met as college students while working at an outpost of the used clothing chain Buffalo Exchange across the street from the University of Arizona. Boufelfel, 36, grew up in a family of artists and academics and developed an affinity for styling while costuming school plays; Cowan, 33, comes from a long line of seamstresses and taught himself to sew around age 13. Both knew early on that they wanted to work with historical fashion so, in 2012, after the owner of a Tucson vintage boutique that Boufelfel frequented put the business up for sale, they took it over, keeping the name and stocking it with pieces not only obscure (Jean Varon and Michael Vollbracht evening gowns; an ’80s jumpsuit from a label called Workers for Freedom) but also rare (Fortuny Delphos dresses, a Victorian-era matador jacket). Eleven years later, their collection of some 5,000 items — spanning Edwardian London to Y2K Tokyo — has drawn a global following of designers and stylists, who turn to Desert Vintage both to inform their work and to fill their personal wardrobes.

OpenAI launched a new web crawler called GPTBot to browse the internet and collect information. However, adding one line of code to a website will block the crawler from accessing the site's data. Adding just one line of code to a website will now block OpenAI from using the site's data to train its AI models. A web crawler is a bot that browses the internet to collect information. Search engines like Google use web crawlers to collect information for their search results, while AI companies use these crawlers to collect data to train their models.

More and more businesses are asking customers to tip. It's driven in part by the spread of digital payment technologies that include prompts to tip workers. Workers are getting more expensive, and tips help cover the costBusinesses relying on tips to help pay their workers is far from a new phenomenon — particularly in the restaurant industry. One potential reason service businesses are warming up to tipping is that they're under particular pressure to keep labor costs in check. In recent years, many service businesses have struggled to attract workers and been forced to raise pay considerably as a result.

With two outs during Chicago's four-run eighth, Gomes lined an RBI single to right field for his fifth career four-hit game.
For the past decade, the White House and Congress have relied on the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, a renowned advisory group, to help shape the federal response to the opioid crisis, whether by convening expert panels or delivering policy recommendations and reports. The opioid crisis has led to hundreds of thousands of overdose deaths, spawned lawsuits and forced other institutions to publicly distance themselves from Sackler money or to acknowledge potential conflicts of interest from ties to Purdue Pharma. The National Academies has largely avoided such scrutiny as it continues to advise the government on painkillers. “I didn’t know they were taking private money,” Michael Von Korff, a prominent pain care researcher, said. “It sounds like insanity to take money from principals of drug companies and then do reports related to opioids.
