Read previewMicrosoft's appears to be focusing its artificial intelligence efforts more on its AI companion Copilot over its revamped Bing search engine — and the tech giant's latest Super Bowl ad may be a sign of the company's changing priorities. On Wednesday, Microsoft revealed its Super Bowl ad for Copilot's standalone smartphone app that can answer user queries akin to OpenAI's ChatGPT. But viewers who've been following Microsoft's AI efforts may be wondering: what about Bing chat, the AI-powered search engine that the company launched months before Copilot? Bing, which added AI capabilities to its search engine last February, had around only 3% of the search market within that same time frame. Microsoft's shift from Bing to Copilot comes as the tech company seeks to integrate Copilot across its product lines.

Goldman Sachs announced its 2023 class of managing directors Thursday afternoon, giving 608 employees the coveted title. It's a smaller cohort than the bank's 2021 MD class, down 5% amid a dealmaking slowdown. Still, Goldman appears to have taken pains to promote employees in revenue-generating divisions like investment banking and trading. Goldman says the percentage of women it promoted as part of the 2023 MD class sets a record, up 1% from 2021. Two years ago, Goldman promoted the largest managing director class in its history, naming 643 employees to the designation in 2021.

In case you haven’t followed the actors’ strike, the AMPTP and SAG-AFTRA are negotiating revenue sharing and policies around use of artificial intelligence (AI), among other items. I’m fortunate to have enough success acting full time that I’ve been able to pay my bills and acquire health insurance. Prior to the advent of streaming, actors like me relied on residuals paid out based on how often we appeared in a show and how successful it was. In short, actors work much more to make ends meet and still sometimes find ourselves earning less. When streaming first showed up, it had a lot of work to do to draw and maintain audiences.

A passageway near the Bank of England (BOE) in the City of London, U.K., on Thursday, March 18, 2021. LONDON — The Bank of England on Thursday ended a run of 14 straight interest rate hikes after new data showed inflation is now running below expectations. Investors on Wednesday ramped up bets that the Bank would pause its interest rate hiking cycle after U.K. inflation came in significantly below expectations for August. Thomas Verbraken, executive director of risk management research at MSCI, said the burning question is whether the Bank of England's Thursday decision signals the peak of the interest rate cycle. Forward looking indicators suggest the U.K. economy is already flirting with recession, a backdrop consistent with cooling wage growth and a policy pivot," Mehdi said.
