By contrast, both funds received their highest monthly net inflows of 2023 in June, gaining $265.5 million and $29.74 million, respectively, according to Lipper data. But AI stocks have suffered along with broader markets in recent weeks, as Treasury yields hovering around 16-year highs dull investors' risk appetite. Retail investor flows into the sector have also cooled as the initial fervor surrounding AI wanes. September saw the lowest net monthly retail flows of $1.96 billion into AI-linked stocks since April, according to Vanda Research. "It is possible this negative sentiment could reverse again in Q4, particularly if large cap tech stocks like Nvidia held in AI-themed tech ETFs continue to show strong earnings growth," CFRA's Ullal added.

India passes data protection law amid surveillance concerns

A man holds a laptop computer as cyber code is projected on him in this illustration picture taken on May 13, 2017 REUTERS/Kacper Pempel/File PhotoNEW DELHI, Aug 9 (Reuters) - Indian lawmakers on Wednesday passed a data protection law that will dictate how tech companies process users' data amid criticism that it will likely lead to increased surveillance by the government. The law will allow companies to transfer some users' data abroad while giving the government power to seek information from firms and issue directions to block content on the advice of a data protection board appointed by the federal government. The Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2023 gives the government powers to exempt state agencies from the law and gives users the right to correct or erase their personal data. The new legislation comes after India withdrew a 2019 privacy bill that had alarmed tech companies like Facebook and Google with its proposals for stringent restrictions on cross-border data flows. The Internet Freedom Foundation, a digital rights group, has also said that the law does not contain any meaningful safeguards against "over-broad surveillance", while the Editors Guild of India has said it affects press freedom and dilutes the Right to Information law.

People clap during the ringing of the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange. The United States is more attractive than European exchanges for new listings and there is not much that Europeans can do to change that, analysts told CNBC. Both examples highlight how the U.S. stock market is more attractive to the corporate world. Roger Jones, head of equities at London and Capital, told CNBC there are two main reasons why this is the case. "Sellers or listers can get better prices in the U.S. which still trades on significantly higher valuations than Europe.

A long-pending privacy bill, released for public consultation in November, would need the approval of the Indian parliament before becoming law. There isn’t much the Indian government and Meta Platforms see eye to eye on. And yet earlier this week, the U.S. social-media giant’s president of global affairs called a reworked draft of the country’s data-protection bill a promising turn of events. The fourth iteration of the long-pending privacy bill, released for public consultation in November, solves some big problems: Previously mooted versions had alarmed tech companies by proposing to treat social-media platforms as publishers, regulate the use of non-personal information such as traffic data, and bar companies from processing critical personal data outside India.
