HONG KONG — A pair of giant pandas began their journey Monday from China to the Smithsonian's National Zoo in Washington, where they will begin a 10-year residence in the nation’s capital, weeks before the presidential election. The pair left for the airport from the China Conservation and Research Center's Dujiangyan Panda Base in the country's southwest Sichuan province, the China Wildlife Conservation Association said in a statement. San Francisco Mayor London Breed has also said that the city’s zoo is preparing to receive its first pair of pandas from China. The impending arrival of the National Zoo’s two new bears was announced in May in a video with first lady Jill Biden. The bears are endemic to China and viewed as a national symbol.

President Joe Biden announced while surveying storm-damaged Florida on Sunday that over $600 million will flow to states affected by hurricanes Helene and Milton, which ravaged Georgia and North Carolina as well. Ahead of the storm, the Biden administration sought to combat misinformation about the emergency funds flowing to the state. No money is being diverted from disaster response needs. FEMA’s disaster response efforts and individual assistance is funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which is a dedicated fund for disaster efforts. Disaster Relief Fund money has not been diverted to other, non-disaster related efforts.”FEMA uses Disaster Relief Fund money solely for that purpose.

In this 2004 photo, then-District Attorney Kamala Harris waits for a proceeding to convene in San Francisco. The long-standing problem of racial inequities in the criminal justice system is among the issues that prompted Harris to become a prosecutor in the first place. “I grew up knowing about the disparities, inequities, and unfairness in the criminal justice system,” Harris said during a 2019 town hall hosted by MSNBC. And I am proud of the work that I did.”As a prosecutor, Harris adopted what she called a “smart on crime” approach to law enforcement. Her cautious stance on the issue frustrated many advocates of criminal justice reform, including those who expressed support for Harris on other issues.

He’s lived through many storms in his 30 years on Longboat Key, but Bob Parrish said he’s never before seen the level of destruction that Hurricane Helene blew into town a little more than two weeks ago. It also brought a double whammy of destruction from two major hurricanes to a string of islands and their residents who were still rebuilding from Hurricane Ian in 2022. Honestly, I only cried a little bit after Milton because I cried so much after Helene. Even before Helene and Milton brought the one-two punch, Rodocker was still reeling from Hurricane Debby’s path of destruction in August. “It was like a right, a left and an undercut.”Marco Island, seen here on Sept. 26, was badly flooded by Hurricane Helene.

Former President Donald Trump on Friday repeatedly called for using the death penalty against migrants who kill U.S. citizens and law enforcement officers. "I’m hereby calling for the death penalty for any migrant who kills an American citizen or a law enforcement officer," Trump said at a campaign rally in Reno, Nevada. Trump has also previously called for using the death penalty against human and drug traffickers. A Trump campaign spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Friday night. Trump’s campaign also expects to draw huge, raucous crowds, and command outsized media attention – which would pay dividends across the political map. It’s the same reason Trump’s campaign has had the former president sit down with popular YouTube streamers and podcasters. Harris’ campaign has employed a similar strategy in recent weeks, targeting specific groups of voters with her appearances on podcasts and other interviews. Coachella rallyTrump’s rally Saturday at the Calhoun Ranch in the Coachella Valley drew criticism from a number of local officials. Still, the main strategic purpose of those trips is to hit Democrats on issues Trump’s campaign sees as its strongest, including crime and border security.

The Supreme Court may soon consider two cases that could dismantle limits on how close protesters can be to people at abortion clinics and other health care facilities. Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, three abortion clinics have opened in Carbondale. “You can’t have protests on the steps of the Supreme Court,” he said. Neither petition has been scheduled to be discussed by the Supreme Court justices. In the face of this polling, though, Trump is betting on his gut, telling a Wisconsin crowd on Sunday, “I really don’t agree” that the economy will decide the election. And it’s the hardest problem to solve too.”On comfortable groundIllegal immigration is certainly comfortable terrain for Trump. Between 2023 and 2024, independent pharmacies in the CVS Caremark pharmacy network were reimbursed 67.5% higher on average than CVS Pharmacy locations, and 51.9% higher than other chain pharmacies in the state. The CVS spokesman also said that CVS pharmacies are not all serviced by Caremark, working with over 70 different PBMs. "There are unfortunately many factors for pharmacy closures in rural areas, including population declines and the growing use of online pharmacies."
