WindCORES, a subsidiary of German renewable electricity company WestfalenWIND, operates data centers inside wind turbines located in a wind park in the Paderborn district in western Germany, which the company says makes the centers almost carbon neutral. The concept uses existing wind turbines to power data centers on site, while fiber optic cables provide a constant internet connection. WindCORES estimates that the unused electricity generated during this period could power one-third of all German data centers. Zattoo joined windCORES in 2020, when it moved one of its six data centers into a wind turbine in Paderborn.

Parent Singapore Telecommunications (STEL.SI) announced the resignation of Optus CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin days after a network-wide outage left nearly half of Australia's 26 million people without phone or internet for 12 hours. Cloud Light, which makes fiber optic equipment and automotive sensors, is expected to expand Lumentum's opportunities in the cloud data center and networking infrastructure space. Cloud Light, which was spun off from Japanese electronic components manufacturer TDK (6762.T) in 2018, generated about $200 million in revenue over the last year, Lumentum added. Lumentum intends to finance the transaction, expected to close by the end of this year, through cash from its balance sheet. The study analyzed nutrition labels and ingredients for 233 plant-based milk products from 23 different manufacturers and found only 28 of the beverages had as much or more protein, vitamin D and calcium as cow’s milk. “Most of the plant milk products fall between the level of 1% and skim milk in terms of saturated fat,” Johnson said. “As a person who studies the microbiome, however, I wouldn’t recommend plant-based milk products for fiber yet. “About a third of the plant-based milk products have sugar or added sugar in quantities that’s more similar to a flavored milk like a strawberry or chocolate milk,” Johnson said.

The Federal Trade Commission is investigating ChatGPT-maker OpenAI to understand if the company has violated consumer protection laws. The Washington Post, which first reported the news, published the FTC's 20-page civil investigative demand (CID), similar to a subpoena outlining key focuses of the probe. A source familiar with the matter confirmed the authenticity of the document to CNBC. The FTC and other agencies have emphasized that they already have legal authority to pursue harm created by AI. The document also asks how OpenAI assesses risk in LLMs and how it monitors and deals with misleading or disparaging statements about people.

Google was working on an AI-powered mobile chatbot app for Gen Z users that features interactive digital characters, CNBC has learned. However, the company recently "deprioritized" those efforts amid an internal reorganization, according to materials seen by CNBC. Typically, when a product is deprioritized at Google, work on it ceases. Called "Bubble Characters," the app featured a choice of a talking digital character that would interact in conversations with Gen Z users, according to internal documentation viewed by CNBC.
