A Meta spokesperson confirmed Box would be leaving the company at the end of this week and said he was doing so for personal reasons. It aims to ship its first AR glasses to consumers in 2027. The Meta spokesperson declined to address the roadmap or whether the OS that Box's team was building would be in the first generation AR glasses. Box is known for having led the creation of the Xbox One operating system and later heading Microsoft's core operating system group, which works across all Windows products.

As the National Audubon Society recovers from a referendum to change its name in light of the fact that America’s founding birder was a slave owner (the name stayed), a luxe reissue of John James Audubon’s magnum opus, BIRDS OF AMERICA (Abbeville, $195), proves the man’s artistry itself unimpeachable. His paintings foretold the ambitions of the camera, and at only a quarter of the size of the four-volume folio that was first published between 1827 and 1838, this still hefty edition preserves the poetic backdrops and fierce detail of the original. The copperplate lines are so exact they mimic the individual venation of feathers; the neck of a gyrfalcon takes on all the ripply realism of moiréd silk.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Richard Roundtree, the trailblazing actor who starred as the ultra-smooth private detective in several “Shaft” films beginning in the early 1970s, has died. Roundtree’s “Shaft” was part of a change in how Black movies were viewed in Hollywood, which failed to consider Black actors – especially for leading roles — in projects at the time. Isaac Hayes’ “Shaft” theme song — which included the line “You a bad mother— (Shut your mouth)” — helped insinuate the original movie into the pop-cult consciousness. After the film’s success, Roundtree returned in sequels “Shaft’s Big Score” in 1972 and “Shaft in Africa” in 1973. Roundtree reprised his role in the 2000 “Shaft” film, a revival that starred Samuel L. Jackson.

The Chevelle is not for hire, but Galiegue's Movie Cars Central operation offers paying visitors the chance to take a spin in more than 10 mostly U.S.-made vintage car models that have featured in movies. HOUSTON, Sept 12 (Reuters) - U.S. oil major Chevron Corp (CVX.N) on Tuesday said it has acquired a majority stake in the world's largest proposed storage facility for hydrogen from renewable energy. U.S. majors Chevron and Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) are rushing to lower production costs and bring scale to the technology as part of their lower carbon fuel strategy. Chevron wants to develop "a large-scale, hydrogen platform that provides affordable, reliable, ever-cleaner energy,” said Austin Knight, vice president of hydrogen, Chevron New Energies. Hydrogen can also be used to store energy and used to adjust seasonal supply and demand needs in power grids. It is spending an average of $1.25 billion per year through 2028 to reduce its own emissions and expand lower carbon fuels including hydrogen.

The fall season has been a staple of American TV for decades, the time to roll out the best that broadcast TV has to offer. New episodes of scripted shows will be in much shorter supply. ABC's hit comedy "Abbott Elementary," Paramount Network's top-rated drama "Yellowstone" and NBC's long-running crime series "Law & Order" will show reruns. This year does mark the 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement, which was signed in 1998, but the peace has never been easy, not enough to risk old wounds being reopened. But the answer to “Why right now?” becomes obvious fairly early in the series, “right now” being the only time this particular study could have been done.

Ukrainian snipers rarely use ghillie suits, camouflage preferred by Western snipers, several marksmen told the Kyiv Post. For the US military, ghillie suit preparation is a key part of sniper training. A ghillie suit is not always necessary to achieve that though. But while they aren't fans of the ghillie suit, there's a few Western weapons they're fond of. The weapons that were tossed aside when these Western weapons showed up were the Soviet/Russian-made SVD "Dragunov " sniper rifles.

Unilever's ice cream business, which includes the Wall's brands, accounts for about 15% of group turnover. "Will we see more ice cream sales? In quarterly results it reported on Tuesday the company said out-of-home ice cream underlying sales grew by a double-digit percentage with positive price and volume growth. The consumer goods giant commands a fifth of global ice cream sales, according to Euromonitor. The company’s overall ice cream sales grew 5.7% in the first half of the year in value terms, compared with the same period in 2022. Price rises across Unilever’s products helped push up its sales by 9.1% in the first half, even though volumes fell marginally.
