Some scientists have warned the XBB subvariants could cause another Covid wave because they are so good at evading the antibodies that block infections. The study compared people who received the new booster with those who received between two and four doses of the original vaccine. People who only received the original shots generally got their last dose about 13 months ago. In what could be the last trial of its kind, Irmgard Furchner — dubbed the ‘secretary of evil’ by German media — was handed a two-year suspended sentence for helping the Stutthof concentration camp to function during World War Two. That's in line with what prosecutors had sought, while survivors of the death camp and relatives of victims who appeared as joint plaintiffs also said that it was not in their interest for the 97-year-old to serve any time in prison. Furchner was charged with “aiding those in a position of responsibility at the former Stutthof concentration camp with the systematic killing of those imprisoned there, due to her work as a shorthand typist/secretary in the Camp Commandant’s Office between June 1943 and April 1945,” according to a court press release. MAINZ, Germany — Authorities in Germany arrested 25 people on Wednesday who are suspected of planning to violently overthrow the government in a far-right extremist plot. It is centered on the so-called Reichsbürger, or Reich Citizens, movement which is motivated by conspiracy theories about the role and legitimacy of the modern German state. The homes of a further 27 people suspected of being members or supporters of the group have been searched. The German armed forces have been beset by a series of scandals involving personnel belonging to far-right groups. German prosecutors note, however, that there is no evidence Russian officials reacted positively to the request.

Într-un studiu publicat vineri de revista “Science” compania arată că a reuşit să dezvolte un vaccin ARNm testat pe “modele complexe de scleroză multiplă la şoareci” unde s-a observat că suprimă boala. Compania, care alături de americanii de la Pfizer a dezvoltat unul dintre vaccinurile aprobate împotriva COVID-19, notează că aceasta este prima aplicaţie a tehnologiei sale ARNm pentru a induce o imunomodulaţie specifică de antigeni în bolile autoimune. Vaccinul se bazează pe tehnologia acidului ribonucleic mesager (ARNm), prin care se pot injecta în corp instrucţiuni sau molecule ce pot determina celulele să producă anumite proteine. În cazul vaccinului împotriva COVID-19, BioNTech şi Pfizer au folosit ARNm pentru a produce proteina S (Spike) a coronavirusului SARS-CoV-2, “cheia” folosită de noul virus pentru a pătrunde în celulă.

Cele 16 landuri ale ţării se pregătesc să înceapă campania de vaccinare pe 27 decembrie, a dezvăluit administraţia din oraşul-stat Berlin miercuri seară.Vaccinul este deja administrat în Regatul Unit, SUA şi Canada după ce autorităţile lor de reglementare au eliberat autorizaţii de urgenţă.De asemenea, vaccinul Pfizer/BioNTech a fost aprobat în Mexic, Ecuador şi Chile, notează dpa.Germania se confruntă în prezent cu bilanţuri zilnice ridicate de morţi de coronavirus, autorităţile fiind sub presiune să înceapă rapid vaccinarea.Institutul Robert Koch (RKI) a raportat 698 de noi decese joi, al doilea cel mai ridicat bilanţ de la începutul pandemiei de coronavirus.Miercuri s-a înregistrat un număr record de 952 de decese, deşi numărul este posibil să fi fost umflat din cauza unei întârzieri în raportare în landul Saxonia, în prezent cel mai afectat din ţară de pandemie.În total, peste 1,4 milioane de persoane au contactat virusul în Germania, potrivit datelor oficiale, iar 24.125 au murit până joi.
