Opponents of daylight savings say it can pose a risk of mood disorders, adverse cardiovascular events and car crashes. The Senate two years ago overwhelmingly passed legislation to make daylight savings year-round though the bill stalled out from there. What little polling on daylight savings vs. standard has been conducted over the years seems to slightly favor daylight savings. "We naturally have more sunlight (in daylight savings months), whether we had daylight saving time or not, we just have longer days. But we've tried permanent daylight savings before, the last in 1974, and it didn't work."

My kids are teenagers now, but they believed in Elf on the Shelf for more than a decade. When they were preschoolers, I'd set up elaborate displays showing Jingle and Garland (each kid had their own elf, naturally) pulling all sorts of pranks. Now that my kids have outgrown Elf on the Shelf, I miss itThe author would set up the Elf on the Shelf while her kids were sleeping. Santa Claus could arrive next week just in time to help stocks end the year on a high note following this week's selloff. December is historically the second-best month in a U.S. presidential election year for the Dow Jones Industrial Average and S & P 500, according to the Stock Trader's Almanac . For the Nasdaq Composite, presidential election year Decembers are usually the fifth-best of the year, with the tech-heavy index rising an average 0.9%. The market's 'pass/fail test' A Santa Claus rally — which typically occurs in the last five trading days of the year and the first two in January — could be just the boost the S & P 500 needs. Some investors expect it's possible the S & P 500 could rally more than that next week, possibly even ending the year at 6,100, or above its previous all-time closing high.

As President Joe Biden makes a final push to confirm judicial nominees before his term in office ends, he is on track to have appointed more federal judges of color than any president before him. If Cheeks is approved, Biden will have appointed 63 Black federal judges, the most of a presidency of any length, according to the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. Both Obama and Bill Clinton each appointed 62 Black judges over the course of their two terms. Senate Democrats vowed to confirm as many Biden nominees as possible before Trump takes office in January and Republicans take control of the Senate.
