At least five game show contestants were "shamelessly exploited" and subjected to "unreasonable, unsafe" working conditions on Amazon Prime's "Beast Games,” a California civil action said this week. "Beast Games" has been billed as a reality competition program with $5 million in prize money, according to Amazon which acquired streaming rights to the show. "Defendant production companies and Amazon shamelessly exploited the labor of approximately (redacted) people who served as contestants," according to lawyers representing the plaintiffs. The 50-page complaint also redacted details of how plaintiffs allegedly suffered and broadly suggested that work conditions were unsuitable. There was also "insufficient medical staff to attend to potential and actual injuries during" production, lawyers for the contestants said.

SAN DIEGO — The Home Depot agreed to a nearly $2 million settlement in a case that alleged it overcharged customers, charging more for items at checkout than the items' advertised prices. In an emailed statement responding to a request for comment about the settlement, Home Depot said, “To ensure consistency for our customers, we’ve updated the timing of our price changes." The settlement includes $1.7 million to be divided among the district attorneys' offices of Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Alameda, San Bernardino and Sonoma counties for consumer law enforcement. "This settlement is a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated and underscores our commitment to safeguarding the rights of consumers in our community," Gascón said. Home Depot, based in Atlanta, reported in a proxy statement in May that it earned nearly $22 billion in operating profit for the 2023 fiscal year.

The indictment was unsealed after it was initially announced during a court hearing last Thursday. An attorney for the woman whose grand jury testimony served as the basis of the new indictment said she intends to testify at trial. Prosecutors in New York began presenting the case to the grand jury in August. His conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals in April, citing violation of Weinstein’s constitutional rights at trial.

A shooting near my son's school in Los Angeles escalated our plans. In 2019, when my son was 2, a shooting took place at a shopping mall near his daycare center. In Japan, my son attends an international school because he's not yet fluent in Japanese. I knew people working two or three jobs, and they drove fast to get from place to place and fill their time with activities. We plan to stay in Japan until my kids finish high school, as I want them to have a stable community during their school-age years.

Capella Bangkok is the new "best hotel" in the world, according to the 50 Best organization. It has long produced rankings in the culinary world, releasing "The World's 50 Best Restaurants" since 2002, and 'The World's 50 Best Bars' since 2009. The Art of Hospitality Award went to Morocco's Royal Mansour, and the Best Beach Hotel Award went to Soneva Fushi in The Maldives. Prosecutors in the Southern District of New York accuse Combs of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution in the indictment unsealed Tuesday. “A year ago Sean Combs stood in Times Square and was handed a key to New York City,” he said. The sex trafficking count mentions “Victim-1,” whose interactions with Combs as described in the indictment mirror those described in Ventura’s lawsuit. According to the indictment, Combs attempted to bribe a member of the hotel security staff who had intervened.
