More than two dozen people were rushed to hospitals in eastern Pennsylvania on Tuesday following an apparent carbon monoxide leak at a day care center, officials said. When firefighters arrived, their monitors for carbon monoxide in the atmosphere immediately went off, Christopher told reporters at the scene. A “vast majority” of the hospitalized were children of “pre-K to elementary school-age,” Christopher later told NBC News. All of those hospitalized were stable and none of them were listed in serious condition, he said. There were no carbon monoxide monitors in the building, officials said.
Twenty-six people, mostly children, were taken to the hospital after carbon monoxide leaked at a daycare center in Allentown, Pa., Tuesday morning, according to the city’s fire department. John Christopher of the Allentown Fire Department said 25 children and eight staff members were evacuated from the Happy Smiles Learning Center. Parents picked up a few of the children and said they would handle their medical care, he said, while the rest of the children and the staff were taken to local hospitals in stable condition.
