Voyager 1 is now using a radio transmitter it hasn’t relied on since 1981 to stay in contact with its team on Earth while engineers work to understand what went wrong. NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft is depicted in this artist's concept traveling through interstellar space, or the space between stars, which it entered in 2012. Voyager 1 has been using one of its two radio transmitters, called an X-band based on the frequency it utilizes, for decades. In the meantime, engineers sent a message to Voyager 1 on October 22 to check that the S-band transmitter was working and received confirmation on October 24. “The S-band signal is too weak to use long term,” Waggoner said.

Lonodn CNN —Some toymakers are “flooding” Europe with dangerous toys via online marketplaces, including magnets capable of puncturing a child’s intestines if swallowed and products containing toxic chemicals, according to an industry body. An Amazon spokesperson said the company has “proactive measures in place to prevent unsafe or non-compliant products from being listed” on its site. The EU has the “strictest toy safety regime in the world” but toymakers from outside the bloc are exempt from EU rules when selling their products via online marketplaces, TIE said. In the United States, too, regulators are concerned about the safety of goods sold online. In September, two officials from the Consumer Products Safety Commission called for an investigation into Shein and Temu over the potential sale of “deadly baby and toddler products.”

North Korea got a good deal by sending its officials to help Russia's Ukraine war, experts said. In a discussion on Monday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said: "North Korea has, in fact, entered the war," per state-run outlet United24 Media. Even limited numbers of North Korean officials aiding Russia offers a vital boost for Kim Jong Un and his regime, experts told Business Insider. "It's a win-win situation," Joseph S. Bermudez Jr., a North Korea defense expert at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, said. Among the North Korean elite, there's also a hunger for consumer goods, which Russia's support can help to provide, Bennett said.

Yale’s gecko-inspired robot’s ability to reconfigure itself creates a soft robot that’s even more adaptable. Tan, who works on materials for soft electronics and soft robotics, says that Yale’s robot is the first self-amputating, self-reconfigurable soft robot she’s seen. “What if a soft robot is just minding its own business walking in the wild, but then some part of it is trapped under a rock?” he questioned. “How does the rest of the robot continue on to finish its mission?”Three soft robot modules join to cross a gap that’s too wide for one to bridge on its own. “We can now adapt soft robots … after the robot is underway for its tasks,” he said.

For decades, an icy moon of Jupiter has been considered one of the most promising places to search for extraterrestrial life in the solar system. As early as midday Monday, NASA plans to launch a new robotic mission to Jupiter. Dubbed Europa Clipper, the probe is the largest spacecraft it has ever built for a planetary science mission.
