That's why two young Cuban entrepreneurs decided to turn to aquaponics to combine the two in a bid to get more bang for their buck and at the same time bolster the island's dwindling food supply, they told Reuters. Aquaponics is an aquaculture system in which wastewater from farming fish is fed to hydroponically grown plants like lettuce that purify the water. "From fish to the production of food plants, everything is natural," Lopez said on a tour of the facility outside Havana, home to arrays of fish tanks and greenhouses. Cuba is facing its worst economic downturn in decades, leading to shortages in food, medicine and fuel that has prompted the communist-run government to seek help from entrepreneurs in finding creative solutions. "There's a logic to it for young people, becoming entrepreneurs, to want to move forward, to be economically prosperous," said Jose Antonio Martinez, a former attorney who co-owns JoJo Aquaponics.

ROME, Aug 31 (Reuters) - An emotional Luc Besson brought his latest film "Dogman" to the Venice Film Festival on Thursday, returning to the limelight two months after France's top appeals court rejected a request to reopen a rape claim against him. Besson had always denied the accusation, which had threatened to turn him into a pariah in the movie industry, and he did not mention the case as he spoke to reporters ahead of the Venice premiere. When you have both you're lucky," said the French filmmaker, who was applauded by many of the journalists. You just have to work and work and keep what's good and work on what's not good and work on it again." Hollywood financer TSG Entertainment is suing Disney for breach of contract. TSG co-finances the production and marketing costs of films in exchanges for a share of the defined gross receipts after the film's release. The group has helped co-finance around 140 films produced by 20th Century Fox, which Disney acquired in 2019, including "Avatar: The Way of Water." Noticing a decline in profits, TSG requested an audit of a sampling of three of the films it financed for 20th Century Fox. "Most egregiously, this scheme triggered a provision in the [revenue participation agreement] that entitles Fox to a 50% share of TSG's profits after the winding-up of TSG's investment vehicle."

CNN —United Airlines will put Braille throughout its plane interiors in order to support customers who are blind or have visual disabilities, becoming the first US airline to do so. “By adding more tactile signage throughout our interiors, we’re making the flying experience more inclusive and accessible, and that’s good for everyone,” Linda Jojo, Executive Vice President, Chief Customer Officer for United, said in a statement. In addition, the airline is working with the National Federation of the Blind (NFB) and the American Council of the Blind (ACB) on other ways to support blind and visually disabled passengers on board. “United is taking additional steps to create an accessible airline passenger experience through Braille signage,” ACB Interim Executive Director Dan Spoone said in a statement. Braille is named for its creator, blind Frenchman Louis Braille.

The Deep-Water Horizon oil spill, severe pollution in the Niger Delta and Amazon deforestation, could be examples of ecocide, said Jojo Mehta, co-founder and executive director of Stop Ecocide International. A number of others have debated doing the same, including Brazil, Canada, Kenya, the Maldives and the UK, according to Stop Ecocide International. “It is not a question of whether ecocide will become part of international criminal law, it’s only a question of when,” Sands said. Change is afoot in the conservative city state with a softening of attitudes and growing tolerance of gay issues, which some members of the LGBT community and academics attribute to the November lifting of a ban on sex between men. But the historic lifting of the ban was not all welcomed by LGBT people. The repeal of the gay sex ban was not universally welcomed. LGBT issues are appearing in the typically conservative domestic media, known for toeing the government line. United Airlines said Thursday it will start sending meal and hotel vouchers for disrupted travel to passengers' phones, in hopes of avoiding customer service bottlenecks at airports and long hold times at call centers. That means rather than stand in line at a customer service desk or dial up an agent, affected travelers can access their vouchers right on their smartphones through the airline's app or website. United said the updates will make it easier for travelers to rebook, track bags and retrieve vouchers. The airline provides food vouchers for flight disruptions of at least three hours caused by the airline, such as a maintenance or technology issue, and hotel vouchers when travelers are forced to stay overnight because of a delay or cancellation caused by the airline, Jojo said. Weather disruptions don't fit those definitions, she said.

A new United Airlines policy will make it cheaper for families to fly together. United Airlines says customers will start to see more adjacent seat options immediately. On Monday, the company said it has made changes that allows adults to sit next to children younger than 12-years-old without paying an additional cost. Most airlines, including United, say they already take steps to ensure families can sit together, whether it be during the booking process or at the gate. United said it's planning to roll out more "family-friendly features" this year but did not say what they will be.

For Dubai-based Filipino artist Nathaniel Alapide, it’s how he became a Guinness World Record holder. Dubai’s 72 kilometers (45 miles) of sun-bleached coastline, and the vast Arabian desert, are his canvas. The scale of the drawing impressed the hotel, who offered him his first full-time job as a sand artist in 2015. It took 30 days to create and required 12,000 tons of sand in four colors, sourced from across the UAE desert. Though he has crafted a career from the practice, Alapide says creating an artwork from sand isn’t without its challenges.

“She Said” nevertheless joins a long tradition of movies about dogged reporters exposing injustice, and in this case helping spawn a sweeping movement. The film is adapted from the book by New York Times reporters Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, which might explain why the work of Ronan Farrow is mentioned but conspicuously shortchanged. Setting that aside, the heart of “She Said,” which begins with Twohey (Carey Mulligan) reporting on Donald Trump, centers on her collaboration with Kantor (Zoe Kazan) to lay bare the predatory behavior of Harvey Weinstein. Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan play New York Times reporters in the fact-based movie "She Said." (The film’s producers include Brad Pitt, who has spoken of confronting Weinstein back when he was dating Gwyneth Paltrow.)
The actor Candace Cameron Bure is facing backlash following her recent comments about her new TV project that she said will prioritize portraying "traditional marriage." “I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she reportedly told the magazine. A representative for Cameron Bure did not immediately respond to a request for comment from NBC News. On its social media pages, the Great American Family describes its programming as "celebrating faith, family and country." In a September interview with Variety, Cameron Bure said she would have an "executive role" at the network and act in its films.
