When Donald Trump is relaxed — or as relaxed as someone can be while on trial for 34 felony counts of falsifying business records — you can see his socks. She takes it all in, and all of it, in turn, informs her work, which has been appearing in New York magazine. But rather than capturing key moments, or producing realistic renderings of the day’s events, Ms. Brourman’s expressive images cut across space and time. She uses watercolors, colored pencils, graphite, glitter pens; sometimes she tweezes for texture, or scrawls words in corners. In her portraits of Mr. Trump, he is both frenetic and hulking; her Stormy Daniels, shaded with blues and purples, looks emotionally bruised.

Advertising That Mixes Reality with A.I.

Love it or hate it, artificial intelligence has become increasingly prevalent in our lives. Frankie Deane, senior vice president of growth for the British brand Monica Vinader, said A.I. was “another form of us utilizing technology to elevate our digital experience for consumers.” When it comes to providing an elevated product and in-store experience, “there is a greater expectation I think on brands like us to translate that digitally,” she said. While the overall project was still in a testing phase, some elements began to be introduced in March. Last year, the Bond Street jeweler David Morris was seeking help to create a gifting advertising campaign for its everyday pieces, which start at £1,500.

Donald Trump sat silent, stone-faced and staring straight ahead as he listened to the intimate details in Stormy Daniels’s testimony on Tuesday, closing his eyes at times in an apparent attempt to maintain his composure. It’s a word that has come up repeatedly among Mr. Trump’s defenders, as they try to convince jurors that any action by Mr. Trump was not to break the law or influence an election but to protect his family. Throughout the trial, which is expected to resume on Thursday with Ms. Daniels’s continued cross-examination, Mr. Trump’s team has tried to paint the former president as a loving husband and father. In doing so, they are trying to convince jurors that Mr. Trump cares about his wife and children more than anything else — including his money or his reputation. The idea of “Donald Trump, family man” is one that jurors have to buy, or not.

To be clear, Stormy Daniels has never accused Donald Trump of anything but a payoff. Daniels took the stand on Tuesday and spoke confidently. She gestured with her hands, at times joking, and at other times she spoke so quickly that the judge had to ask her to slow down. Trump was not threatening during the sexual encounter, she testified, though he was standing between her and the door. She did not say no to sex with him, but she also didn’t consent to him not using a condom.

Those following Mr. Weinstein’s legal battles always knew there was a possibility that his conviction would be thrown out on appeal. But the nature of the decision, and its focus on several women who testified that Mr. Weinstein had assaulted them, even though none of those allegations had led to charges, revealed something that unsettled me. Until Thursday, it seemed that we had entered a new age of accountability, legal and social, not just for Mr. Weinstein but also for the abusers who’d come after him. Even as the #MeToo movement fell short in some ways, the Weinstein case felt like a cultural marker — an Arthur’s sword in the stone moment, in which something irreversible happened. The monster of #MeToo had been vanquished, and it changed something about the way we understood vulnerability and power.

But lately, as I perversely scroll through the news on my phone, I’ve had a comforting thought: Mr. Trump is probably obsessing, too. His Truth Social account indicated as much last week. Mr. Trump, in his Truth Social post, writes: “LOOK WHAT WAS JUST FOUND! WILL THE FAKE NEWS REPORT IT?” (To be clear, Mr. Trump, the 2018 statement was widely reported at the time.) Mr. Trump may be running for president of the United States, but it’s not American voters who are on his mind.

It comes at a time when women's sports generally — from basketball to soccer and even volleyball — are attracting new viewers. Last week's college women's basketball championship game between the Hawkeyes and the South Carolina Gamecocks, meanwhile, snagged more viewers than any basketball — women or men, college or pro — since 2019, ESPN said. It's not just women's college ball that's luring eyeballs. Attendance at US women's pro soccer games increased by 23% in 2023, according to National World Soccer League commissioner Jessica Berman. And that's just the start, according to hedge fund mogul Marc Larsry, who recently declared women's sports the next "big opportunity" for sports investing.

CNN —The legal battle over a controversial Texas immigration law could eventually give the Supreme Court a chance to revisit a historic ruling that largely struck down Arizona’s “show me your papers” law and reaffirmed the federal government’s “broad, undoubted power” over immigration. “It would have been incredibly difficult for the 5th Circuit to let this law stand under existing Supreme Court precedent,” she said. ‘Show me your papers’ lawThe Arizona law is a high-profile example of what happens when states attempt to take immigration policy into their own hands. Jan Brewer signed the Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act, known as SB 1070, into law in 2010. The Supreme Court upheld the “show me your papers” part of the law and struck down the three other parts.

CNN —American gamer and Twitch superstar Tyler “Ninja” Blevins revealed he was diagnosed with melanoma, a form of skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States; 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in their lifetime, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Blevins was diagnosed with melanoma, which is a rare type of skin cancer — only about 1% of skin cancer cases — but accounts for a large majority of skin cancer deaths. However, if people do have suspicious skin spots or any other symptoms concerning for skin cancer, they should talk to their primary care doctor or dermatologist. How to perform a skin self-examAn important part of screening for skin cancer is to document moles and other skin spots and to notice changes, the association says.

Judith Butler Thinks You’re Overreacting
  + stars: | 2024-03-24 | by ( Jessica Bennett | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +1 min
The first thing I did when reading Judith Butler’s new book, “Who’s Afraid of Gender?”, was to look up the word “phantasm,” which appears 41 times in the introduction alone. (It means illusion; the “phantasm of gender,” a threat rooted in fear and fantasy.) In a single word, “gender” holds the power to seemingly drive people mad with fear. Butler’s latest comes more than three decades after their first and most famous book, “Gender Trouble,” brought the idea of “gender as performance” into the mainstream. As it turns out, Butler — who has written 15 books since — never intended to return to the subject, even as a culture war raged.

I think I had five jobs because they just weren’t working for what was going on in my personal life,” Koelsch told me. Now, she works four days from home, one day in the office, and her life is manageable. Remote work, and Washington State’s paid family and medical leave program, will make having another kid possible for her. One was the negative effect of the increased volatility and outrageous expense of child care (which I wrote about on Wednesday). I’ve seen a fair number of headlines over the past few years like this one, “WFH Goes From New Path to Dead End for Working Mothers,” and this one, “‘You Are Mommy Tracked to the Billionth Degree,’” suggesting that for ambitious moms, working from home is a mistake.

Ibogaine, a formidable hallucinogen made from the root of a shrub native to Central Africa, is not for the timid. It unleashes a harrowing psychedelic trip that can last more than 24 hours, and the drug can cause sudden cardiac arrest and death. It quells the agony of opioid withdrawal and cravings and then gives patients a born-again-style zeal for sobriety. “My biggest frustration is that more people don’t have access to it.”That’s because ibogaine is illegal in the United States. Patients have to go abroad for ibogaine therapy, often at unregulated clinics that provide little medical oversight.
