Over the past few months, hundreds of Jersey Shore residents have staged demonstrations opposing Ocean Wind 1, an offshore wind farm being developed by a subsidiary of Orsted, a Danish company. Some have painted these anti-wind crusaders as Jersey Shore versions of the Cape Cod residents fighting to preserve the view from their multimillion-dollar homes. New wind turbines, solar panels and other clean energy infrastructure are being built before our eyes, and in some cases in our hometowns. Oil and gas companies, which have a lot to lose, have exploited this feeling to great effect. Other groups fighting wind projects say they want to protect whales but are funded by oil interests.

When Fabricio and Amy Pazmino started thinking about leaving their home in Colts Neck, N.J., to move somewhere on the Jersey Shore, they immediately thought of a place where they had spent several happy post-college summers, packed into small beach bungalows with friends for season-long rentals. After nearly five years of searching — and repeatedly being outbid — the Pazminos finally found their beach house this year: a four-bedroom, four-bath home in Manasquan, near the Glimmer Glass inlet, that they bought for $970,000. The colonial-style house, which they moved into in March with their three daughters, was built in the 1970s, but they refer to it as a “post-Sandy home,” because it is one of many in this oceanfront borough that were severely damaged and rebuilt after the hurricane swept up the coast in 2012. That storm set in motion a process that has changed the image of this formerly funky beach town. Less than 10 years later, an influx of city people seeking refuge during Covid helped cement the Monmouth County borough’s more polished image.

In June, the collapse of the I-95 bridge in Philadelphia brought one of the city's busiest thoroughfares to a standstill. But in Philadelphia, I-95 reopened just 12 days later, restoring order on one of the busiest thoroughfares in the area. That quick work, Belmonte said, was one of many key decisions that got the reconstruction project moving rapidly. Meanwhile, congestion immediately spiked on the roadways near the I-95 collapse as emergency crews rushed to set up detours. Bartash said her travel time to Bucks County doubled to two and a half hours during the I-95 bridge reconstruction.

Private credit goes Hollywood. A town that loves a good story has a leading role in the biggest one on Wall Street. So in that vein, private credit filling the gap left by banks reconsidering their lending decisions is great. Ratings agency Moody's has already raised the alarm, suggesting defaults among borrowers in private credit will rise. But I think it's fair to say that industry isn't as cut and dried as others private credit might be lending to.

And in 2018, the Christies bought a multimillion-dollar shorefront home in Bay Head, one of the more exclusive towns on the Jersey Shore. The business of being Chris Christie has received only sporadic attention since he left public office. Mr. Christie has made millions from interests wanting to leverage his political ties, including pharmaceutical, medical and sports betting companies, like DraftKings — whose hiring of Mr. Christie has not been previously reported. Some had business with the state when Mr. Christie was governor, and saw him as a reliable advocate for their bottom line, while others were interested in tapping into his close association with Mr. Trump and the Trump administration. Christie 55 Solutions earned roughly $1.3 million in federal lobbying fees from April 2020 to April 2021, according to federal records.

The day began with a dip into the cool Atlantic waters along the New Jersey shore near Avon-by-the-Sea. Soon after, his daughter made a beeline toward the waves, splashing as she waded deeper into the dark blue. The narrow, fast-moving stream swept her farther and farther away from the shore. Mr. Batista rushed in to rescue her, friends and authorities said. But the ocean, in all its cruelty, pulled him under.

PHILADELPHIA, June 11 (Reuters) - A portion of a major U.S. highway collapsed in Philadelphia after a vehicle caught fire underneath it, city officials said on Sunday. Video showed emergency vehicles and workers gathered in the area. Traffic in both directions of the eight-lane highway was halted due to concerns about the structural integrity of the remaining southbound lanes. This stretch of the I-95 corridor sits in the dense northeast section of Philadelphia and connects the city to its northern suburbs, like Bucks County. Firefighters battled a large fire coming from a vehicle, Philadelphia Fire Battalion Chief Derek Bowmer told reporters.

And it may seem like the simple solution is to keep young kids off of social media platforms entirely, but that's not realistic for everyone. The age of 13 is "too early" for children to use social media, he said earlier this year . When you approach them about their online activities, you shouldn't only ask about whether or not they're on social media. Create a family plan for social media useMake a decision, as a family, about these key factors:What age can children in our family start using social media? To help your kids avoid developing a reliance on social media for connection, guide them to other activities for social interaction, Doumas says.

May 31 (Reuters) - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who backed Donald Trump's successful 2016 presidential campaign but has since become a vocal critic, will launch his campaign for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination on June 6, a person familiar with the matter said. Christie ousted Democratic Governor Jon Corzine in the 2009 gubernatorial election. With his brash, unapologetic approach - critics called him a bully - Christie made headlines taking on public sector unions and other political opponents. In 2012, Christie earned widespread praise for his handling of Superstorm Sandy, which devastated the Jersey Shore. Christie swept to a second term in 2013 in a state where Democratic voters significantly outnumber Republicans, vaulting him toward the top of the list of potential future Republican presidential contenders.

"When television is good, nothing - not the theater, not the magazines or newspapers - nothing is better," Minow said. "I can assure you that what you will observe is a vast wasteland," he said. The speech draft had referred to a "vast wasteland of junk" but Minow excised "of junk" so as not to offend his audience too deeply. Authorities in Perth, Western Australia, believe that a bull shark is responsible for a fatal attack. Bull sharks, which can live in salt and fresh water, can be aggressive though fatal attacks are rare. Bull sharks are the most dangerous sharks in the world, according to many experts, because they hunt along shorelines where people gather to swim. One of the biggest bull sharks recorded was 13 feet long and weighed 990 pounds. The Swan River had not seen a fatal shark attack since January 1923, when a bull shark killed a 13-year-old boy.
