The dollar extended its gains in early Monday trades in Asia as a holiday in Japan sapped liquidity, leaving China's somewhat disappointing weekend stimulus announcements the focus of market attention. "Markets are likely disappointed that China's Finance Ministry did not unveil concrete additional stimulus," said Richard Franulovich, head of FX strategy at Westpac, in a note. The yuan is down 0.9% against the dollar since Sept. 24, when the People's Bank of China kicked off China's most aggressive stimulus measures since the pandemic. The yen and euro both fell around 0.3% each, sterling shed 0.4% and the dollar index climbed 0.4%.

Companies like Japan's Saizeriya, Yum China, and Fast Retailing have recently reported strong sales. There are similarities between Japan's "Lost Decade" of economic stagnation in the 1990s, after the country's asset and credit bubbles burst, and China's economic downturn now. The ethos has benefited companies with budget offerings, including Yum China, which operates KFC and Pizza Hut in the country. Intense competitionHowever, China's market is a fast and furious one — even for winners — and the country's economic downturn has created cut-throat competition with aggressive price wars. As China's economic malaise deepened, boba tea went from premium pricing around $3.50 to $5.50 on average to as little as $1 or less over the last few years.

In “Single Lady,” her fourth, self-directed hour, all guardrails are off. But with “Single Lady,” Wong wants to do more than simply recount her exploits to an ecstatic crowd at L.A.’s Wiltern Theater. One of the best bits of “Single Lady” sees her express naked condescension towards insecure male comedians and the younger women they make her babysit at various dinner parties. Wong’s fans already know the title of “Single Lady” is something of a misnomer. “Single Lady” is far from a how-to guide, but it’s a riveting testimonial.

The dollar clung to seven-week highs against major currencies on Tuesday as investors ponder the outlook for U.S. rates after a strong jobs report last week dashed bets for large rate cuts, while escalating tensions in Middle East dented risk sentiment. Traders have drastically shifted their monetary easing expectations from the Federal Reserve this year. That has kept the dollar on the front foot and surging to a multi-week high against the euro, sterling and the yen. The New Zealand dollar was 0.3% higher at $0.6144 ahead of the monetary policy decision on Wednesday. Household spending in Japan fell 1.9% year-on-year in August in real terms, a softer fall compared to the 2.6% decline expected by a Reuters poll of economists. Medical tourism comes with risks; the American Medical Association recommends going only to medical facilities recognized by international accrediting bodies and following up testing with care at home. It's unclear, though, how many medical tourists visit accredited facilities, and there's still the question of whether all these tests are useful for someone who is seemingly in good health. Related storiesSince COVID-19 came into the picture, health screenings and extensive physicals have received some buzz. New York CNN —Google is so synonymous with its core product that its name is a verb that means “search.” Yet Google’s dominance of that market is shrinking. For the first time in decades, Google next year will not control a majority of the US search market, according to a forecast by advertising research firm eMarketer. Google will remain the biggest search player, maintaining a 48% share of American search advertising revenue. That ruling could result in the eventual breakup of the company’s search business.
