Investors searching for income can find some bargains in dividend stocks, according to Ben Kirby, co-head of investments at Thornburg Investment Management. Now investors have an added benefit in that dividend stocks are selling at a big discount, he said. When looking for the right dividend stock, Kirby wants companies offering solid balance sheets and free-cash-flow, as well as competitive advantages and sustainable profit margins. Here are some of the stocks Kirby owns in his funds and that he particularly likes right now. If the reductions continue, coupled with the stock's dividend yield, "that alone will drive a pretty competitive return," Kirby said.

The new public-private partnership, dubbed Project Fortress, underscores the real danger US officials and bank executives believe cyberattacks pose to the economy. But Project Fortress is not just about playing defense. Project Fortress has been in the works for several months, with Treasury rolling out various parts of the alliance in pieces, the source said. One of the key elements of Project Fortress is the cyber hygiene tool run by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). AI is poised to change just about every employee's job at Citi and "sustainably change how we work for decades to come," Zafar said. The four-part plan will impact everyone from technology and operations to wealth and product design. Citi has undergone considerable change as CEO Jane Fraser looks to streamline the bank's operations and boost returns. A "soft landing" scenario is unlikely for the US economy, Citi CEO Jane Fraser said. "We're seeing a much more cautious low-income consumer," Fraser said. AdvertisementIt's going to be tough for the US to stick an economic soft landing, and rampant inflation is hitting lower-income Americans hard, Citi CEO Jane Fraser said. Citigroup CEO Jane Fraser said Monday that consumer behavior has diverged as inflation for goods and services makes life harder for many Americans. Fraser, who leads one of the largest U.S. credit card issuers, said she is seeing a "K-shaped consumer." "We're seeing a much more cautious low-income consumer," Fraser said. That means Americans must live with higher rates for credit card debt, auto loans and mortgages for longer. "It's hard to get a soft landing," the CEO added, using a term for when higher rates reduce inflation without triggering an economic recession.

Price rises in the euro area held steady at 2.4% in April, while the economy returned to growth in the first quarter, according to flash figures published Tuesday. Headline inflation of 2.4% was in line with the forecast of economists polled by Reuters. It is the seventh straight month the headline rate has been below 3%, despite a slight rebound in the rate in December due to energy prices. Core inflation, excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, dipped to 2.7% from 2.9% in March. However, Martinez noted the slightly lower-than-expected fall in core inflation and volatility in some areas of services that had increased the inflation rates in France and Italy.

urbazonSome student loan borrowers have until the end of Tuesday to take advantage of an opportunity to get their debt forgiven sooner than they would have otherwise. If these borrowers are enrolled in an income-driven repayment plan, it can mean that they're also on multiple different timelines to forgiveness. "This will ensure folks get the maximum number of months of credit towards student debt cancellation," Fox said. Usually, a student loan consolidation restarts a borrower's forgiveness timeline to zero, making it a terrible move for those working toward cancellation. You can apply for a Direct Consolidation Loan at StudentAid.gov or with your loan servicer.

He was a model to me of artistic labor and discipline, even if those early paintings were painfully amateurish. The painting followed me from Amherst to my first job in New York, and on to London and Delhi. IT WASN’T MY intention to start an essay about artistic beginnings with a story of artistic death. I’m especially moved by those first moments of validation by which an artist comes out to himself, as it were. It’s this, the inexorability of the correspondence between an artist and the world, that gives those first steps their magical quality.

Citigroup on Friday posted first-quarter revenue that topped analysts' estimates, helped by better-than-expected results in the bank's investment banking and trading operations. Revenue slipped 2% to $21.10 billion, mostly driven by the impact of selling an overseas business in the year-earlier period. Investment banking revenue jumped 35% to $903 million in the quarter, driven by rising debt and equity issuance, topping the $805 million StreetAccount estimate. Fixed income trading revenue fell 10% to $4.2 billion, edging out the $4.14 billion estimate, and equities revenue rose 5% to $1.2 billion, topping the $1.12 billion estimate. Now, analysts want to know if Citigroup can maintain its previous guidance for full-year revenue and expense targets.

Citigroup will likely complete its organizational streamlining efforts this week — which marks a major milestone for the banking giant, according to Wells Fargo's Mike Mayo. In light of these structural changes, Mayo raised his price target on Citigroup shares to $80 from $70 on Sunday, suggesting shares could rally 31.5% from Friday's close. Mayo thinks that the bank's simpler structure should provide more confidence that it can meet its targets down the line. "Investors take note — this meets a major Citi milestone," Mayo wrote in his note. Year to date, Citigroup shares are up 18.5%.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (AP) — Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jane Fonda joined California Gov. Gavin Newsom and environmental advocates in Los Angeles on Friday to launch a campaign to keep a 2022 law banning new oil and gas wells near homes, schools and hospitals. It hasn't taken effect after the oil industry qualified a referendum to ask voters to overturn it in November. She has since worked to fight against the health impacts of the oil industry and wants voters to keep the law limiting the location of new oil and gas wells. “The oil industry has no place in our backyards, in our democracy or in our future,” she said.

In today's big story, we're looking at the reshuffling of top executives at two of the biggest US banks . Viswas Raghavan, JPMorgan's top dealmaker, has joined Citi as its head of banking and executive vice chair, reporting directly to CEO Jane Fraser. The move is a big deal, but even more shocking since Raghavan was just promoted to be the sole head of JPMorgan's deals business. Since high interest rates aren't stopping stocks from reaching record highs, cuts might not come at all this year , according to analyst Jim Bianco. Market vet Ed Yardeni said interest rates are actually in a sweet spot for stocks, similar to the late '90s.

Citi's hire comes just weeks after JPMorgan promoted Raghavan to the sole head of its deals business, forcing America's biggest bank by assets to regroup. Under Raghavan, JPMorgan rose to No. For the last decade, the 59-year-old has been CEO of the bank's commercial bank, dedicated to corporate lending, including to Silicon Valley startups and real-estate investors.
