For the shorthanded Lakers – missing five key contributors through injury – James filled out the box score as his squad ended its 11-game losing streak against the Clippers. The exclamation point of the impressive performance came in overtime when James emphatically converted an alley-oop from Austin Reeves to effectively seal the victory. In an encounter in which the Clippers had led for the majority of play, James took over late in the day. But in the additional five minutes, Reaves scored seven of his 15 on the night as the Lakers were able to grab an important victory. MILWAUKEE (AP) — Damian Lillard acknowledged this season opener felt a little different from the others as he adjusted to switching teams for the first time. Lillard scored 39 points and the Milwaukee Bucks regrouped after blowing a 19-point lead to beat the Philadelphia 76ers 118-117 on Thursday night. Lillard had the highest point total for a player making his Bucks debut, surpassing the 34 that Terry Cummings scored in 1984. The 76ers scored seven straight points to get the margin down to two, but Lillard answered by sinking another 3-pointer with 1:13 left. Harden arrived at the 76ers’ complex in Camden, New Jersey, on Wednesday but was told not to accompany the team to Milwaukee.

Fictionalized shows drawn from real life don’t always satisfy the people depicted. But when the subjects are superstars accustomed to speaking for themselves, their criticism can take on a life of its own. That’s what happened after the first season of HBO’s “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty,” which returns for a second season on Sunday. But many of the people portrayed in Season 1 objected loudly to the way they and others were depicted — Magic Johnson (Quincy Isaiah), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (Solomon Hughes) and Coach Jerry West (Jason Clarke) among them. West even demanded an apology from HBO (and his character does seem more muted in the coming season).

June 22 - At least 209 Pakistanis were on an overloaded boat that capsized and sank in open seas off Greece last week, according to data shared with Reuters on Thursday by a Pakistani investigative agency. Hundreds of people from different countries are believed to have been on board the vessel, in what is seen as the worst sea disaster in years for the region. Pakistan is yet to officially confirm how many of its citizens were on the boat, but kick-started a DNA sampling effort to help Greece identify those who died. The data shared by the FIA showed that 181 people were from Pakistan and 28 from Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Greece has charged nine Egyptian men over the shipwreck, the worst in the Mediterranean Sea this year, and placed them in detention pending trial.

I slide into a cushy leather chair in this bustling shop next to a small flooring business. The hum of clippers echoes throughout the room. A framed photo of former President Barack Obama hangs on a wall, and the TV is tuned to highlights from a recent Golden State Warriors basketball game. But the volume is turned down low, and instead I hear snippets of conversations — quick descriptions of desired cuts, followed by comfortable banter about politics (Donald Trump running for president — again!) career scoring record) and life (a 20-something moving in with his girlfriend).

"I was basically a proponent of economic development as a way to equality, social equality," Brown told the Cleveland Plain Dealer in 2013. The NFL this year honored Brown by renaming the league's rushing title the Jim Brown Award.

The last time the NBA’s all-time scoring record changed hands was a little less than four decades ago, when Los Angeles Lakers center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar slung a skyhook over the Utah Jazz. Abdul-Jabbar’s 17th point of the night gave him the 31,421st of his career, moving him two past Wilt Chamberlain. On Tuesday night in Los Angeles, with his 36th point against the Oklahoma City Thunder, LeBron James tallied the 38,388th of his own career and edged past Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s new scoring king. The historic bucket came on a step-back jump shot near the end of the third quarter as Abdul-Jabbar looked on. James raised his arms in celebration, and his family joined him on the floor for a mid-game ceremony alongside Abdul-Jabbar and NBA commissioner Adam Silver.

Abdul-Jabbar blames himself for lack of relationship with James

Feb 8 (Reuters) - Kareem Abdul-Jabbar reflected on the complicated relationship he has with LeBron James a day after sitting courtside to watch the Los Angeles Lakers forward break the NBA career scoring record he set nearly 40 years ago. Not for anything I did, but perhaps for not making more of an effort to reach out to him," Abdul-Jabbar wrote in a Substack blog post on Wednesday. "When he started to make a name for himself, I was already pretty removed from the NBA world," wrote the 75-year-old Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar also said he is happy that James broke his record. His winning in no way affects my winning," Abdul-Jabbar wrote.

Lakers great Abdul-Jabbar, who took the title from Wilt Chamberlain with his signature skyhook on April 5, 1984, sat courtside at Tuesday's game. The NBA world came to a halt on Tuesday night to honor LeBron James when he became the league's all time leading scorer. On hand in Los Angeles to witness the occasion was NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who had held the title for 39 years since dethroning then-champ Wilt Chamberlain in 1984. Abdul-Jabbar, himself a former Los Angeles Laker, walked onto the court to present James with a commemorative basketball after the 38-year-old scored the 38,388th point of his 20-year career. While fans on social media speculated that Abdul-Jabbar was unhappy seeing his record being broken, the 75-year-old on Wednesday said that he was "thrilled" to see James become the new No.
James is 36 points away from surpassing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's career record of 38,387 and his complete game reminds Dumars of 20-times major tennis champion Roger Federer. "I've seen people try to make him shoot his outside jump shot, and he's made them. He is averaging 30 points per game and was selected to his record-tying 19th All-Star game last month. "It's going to be maybe 22, 23, 24 years that you have to play at a super high level. "I know in the NBA we've never seen that before."
"I know what I bring to the table every single night and what I can do out on this floor. "I always say Michael Jordan is the GOAT. Former NBA coach George Karl, whose teams went up against both Jordan and James, also weighed into the GOAT debate last month. Karl suggested Jordan would have been even more dominant in today's game amid a league-wide trend in favour of offense. "Anyone who is debating Michael's GOAT status doesn't realize he would average a 40 PPG triple double in the modern game!"
