The Detroit automaker confirmed the switch Tuesday ahead of an investor event in which GM is expected to discuss the change. The change comes after GM spent billions of dollars to develop in-house "Ultium" batteries and technologies that the automaker previously touted as "revolutionary" and the ultimate technologies to be able to build a profitable EV business. The company said the batteries and the technologies will remain, but the name "Ultium" will not other than production operations such as its "Ultium Cells" joint venture plants with LG Energy Solution.

Eradicating corruption in Malaysia continues to be a difficult hurdle Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim needs to overcome if he wants to attract more foreign direct investments into the country. To my mind ... the major problem is poor governance and endemic corruption," he told CNBC's JP Ong. Anwar explained that both domestic and foreign investors will garner more confidence when they see consistency in transparent processes and a stronger commitment to put an end to corruption. "Although, we are still carrying on this mission, because I had strongly suggested that when, in terms of corruption, it is almost systemic. When it comes to systemic, which means the mission, the crusade against corruption, has got to be full force," he added.

JOHANNESBURG Associated Press —An American woman who went missing while on a hike on Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, has died and her body has been recovered, authorities said on Monday. The woman has been identified as a 20-year-old student from North Carolina named Brook Cheuvront. The management of SANParks, which manages Table Mountain and other national parks, said the cause of death was still unclear and an inquest into her death has been opened. An initial search was conducted by rangers, wilderness search and rescue members, and trail runners until late Saturday evening when it was no longer practical to continue, said Louw. Amazon is requiring its workers to return to the office full time. He noted that the company's three-day-a-week policy, instituted in 2023, had only reinforced the view that a full return was necessary. Amazon joins a growing list of major U.S. firms returning to a five-days-a-week office policy, including Boeing, JP Morgan Chase and UPS. However, according to data from FlexIndex, a firm that tracks company office policies, a majority of U.S. firms still offer hybrid arrangements. "As we have grown our teams as quickly and substantially as we have the last many years, we have understandably added a lot of managers," Jassy said.

More than 4,000 people have descended here for the Future Proof conference , a vast social gathering designed to give younger registered investment advisors and other investment professionals access to what they want. Lower interest rates may impact your investment portfolio following the Fed's first rate cut. "They get spooked by something like policy changes and sell out of a diversified investment portfolio. "Generally, lower interest rates boost the economy as lending gets cheaper for consumers and businesses, " says Eckles. However, as interest rates fall, the attractiveness of these cash investments declines. The inverse relationship between bond prices and interest rates means that as rates fall, bond prices rise, providing another return component.

"I say keep it simple: Rate cuts are good," he said. "Small rate cuts are great, because they project confidence and give you a lot more rat cuts later on, and they do not allow for panic." While overall inflation declined to its lowest level since February 2021, one key metric rose slightly more than expected, disappointing some who hoped the Fed would make a 50 basis-point rate cut instead of a 25 basis-point cut. He stressed that even a smaller rate cut than hoped would be positive for many businesses. But Cramer stressed the palpable tension on Wall Street does not set the stage for any steadfast conclusions.

watch nowChina's property market has still not found a bottom despite all the turmoil in the past year, according to Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters. Speaking to CNBC's JP Ong, Winters described the investing environment in China as "difficult," explaining that consumer confidence and international investor confidence was relatively low. "We know that the underlying source of a lot of the confidence questions is the property market, and the property market has not yet completely bottomed out, so it's been a slow grind down," he added. The danger, he said, is that a property market bubble that bursts in other markets has usually portended a financial crisis, and that is normally accompanied with more significant falls in GDP. As such, he thinks that it will be a bit uncomfortable in the short term, but fiscally, "that's going to be a good thing."
