The 10-year Treasury yield started the new year trading around 3.8% after a steep decline in late 2023. Against this backdrop, CNBC Pro asked three strategists and money managers how they would allocate $50,000 with yields rising again. Specifically, he recommended bills with a three- to six-month maturity, which investors can gain exposure to through exchange-traded funds such as the Vanguard Short-Term Treasury ETF (VGSH) or SPDR Portfolio Short Term Treasury ETF (SPTS) . Exchange-traded funds that offer exposure to these assets include the iShares 20 Plus Year Treasury Bond ETF (TLT) and Vanguard Intermediate-Term Corporate Bond ETF (VCIT) . Invest in dividend-growing value stocks Newton Investment Management's John Bailer recommended investors solely allocate into value stocks with sustainable and growing dividends.

After 2023's blowout run, it's hard to recall the once gloomy investing setup for technology stocks last December. As the calendar year turns, don't expect technology stocks to match 2023's blowout gains, but the year's performance is no fluke. AI stocks may dominate tech-focused investing, but don't sleep on the other emerging themes. Blended finance see providers of public money - typically government aid departments, development finance institutions or charitable donors - agree to accept more risk in a fund to encourage private sector investors to join. The money raised through blended finance funds is a fraction of what's needed. The new 25-year SDG Loan Fund is structured so that FMO takes the first loss should the loans turn sour. Private investors, which include Allianz and Skandia, will be the last to lose money. But this loan fund structure ensured "everyone's interest is aligned," she said, noting that private investors can start getting their money back when loans begin amortising in a few years.

A view shows the logo of the European Central Bank (ECB) outside its headquarters in Frankfurt, Germany March 16, 2023. With investors confident that big central banks are likely done raising rates, focus has switched to when rate cuts will start. Traders now price in over an 80% chance of a 25 basis-points (bps) ECB cut by April, which had been fully priced for July last week. Piet Christiansen, chief analyst at Danske Bank, said the expectations for ECB rate cuts now reflected a "doom and gloom" scenario. He added the ECB would need to cut rates at least as much as traders expect next year.

Will the S & P 500 be nearer to 5,000 by the end of the year? Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Andrew Slimmon was among some on Wall Street who earlier this year believed so. The S & P 500 closed at 4,193.80 on Tuesday. Although markets have been volatile lately, Slimmon expects the S & P 500 to be closer to 5,000 than 4,000. But his S & P 500 prediction is predicated on a few factors, Slimmon told CNBC's " Squawk Box Asia. "

The metals and mining sector is typically used as a proxy for equity investors in Europe to gain exposure to China, given it is the world's largest commodities consumer, and it has sunk along with China's growth expectations. But Beijing in recent weeks has taken targeted steps towards supporting key pockets of its economy, lifting the mining sector off its 31-month lows. In the last month, the mining index has risen nearly 10% compared with a gain of just 2.5% for the wider STOXX 600. Sweeney says this wide range of measures could be a catalyst for an upturn in the metals and mining sector. "Obviously, the 800-pound gorilla from a primary metal demand perspective is China," Peter Mallin-Jones, mining analyst at UK investment bank Peel Hunt, said.

A few exchange-traded funds that offer exposure to value stocks include the Vanguard Value ETF (VTV), the iShares Russell Mid-Cap Value ETF (IWS), and the Dimensional US Marketwide Value ETF (DFUV). But an arguably better opportunity lies outside of the US stock market in international value stocks, he said. But the discrepancy, like in the US, between international value stocks and all other international stocks is also at "historically wide levels," Faber said. REUTERS/Jeenah Moon/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 24 (Reuters) - Blackstone's (BX.N) newly established China unit has received regulatory approval to raise funds that will be invested overseas, joining other global asset managers in seeking to tap Chinese investor demand for foreign assets. Blackstone registered a fund management unit with the Asset Management Association of China under the qualified domestic limited partnership (QDLP) programme, a notice from the regulator showed. The unit, which was established in March, has seven full time employees, including five fund professionals, the notice said. The quota-based QDLP programme, first launched in 2012, allows foreign and domestic fund managers to raise money from Chinese high-net worth individuals and institutions which is then fed into offshore funds. The QDLP programme is generally more popular when the yuan is weaker.

REUTERS/Andrew KellyAug 11 (Reuters) - The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has delayed a decision on whether to approve Cathie Wood-led Ark Investment Management's (ARK) spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund (ETF), a filing by the regulator showed on Friday. The SEC is seeking public comment on the Ark 21Shares Bitcoin ETF application, and has pushed back the decision date by several weeks to potentially months. In June, BlackRock (BLK.N), the world's biggest asset manager, also filed for a bitcoin ETF, a move that many viewed as a gamechanger for the industry. In 2021, Wood's ARK and crypto investment firm 21Shares US LLC had first teamed up to file an application for a spot bitcoin ETF with the regulator.

ChatGPT was able to pass the test Bridgewater gives to its investment associates, the firm's co-CIO said. ChatGPT is the equivalent of having "millions" of investment associates working at once, Greg Jensen said. Greg Jensen, co-CIO of the world's biggest hedge fund, told Bloomberg that ChatGPT was able to pass its investment associate test, and that the power of the buzzy AI chatbot is like having "millions" of junior staffers working all at once. Bots like ChatGPT have already performed well on Bridgewater's internal tests for investments associates, Jensen said. "Because all of sudden if you have an 80th percentile investment associate, technologically, you have millions of them at once.

SEOUL, June 20 (Reuters) - The South Korean government has been ordered to pay hedge fund Elliott about $108.5 million, Elliott and the Ministry of Justice said on Tuesday, in an dispute settlement case stemming from the 2015 merger of two Samsung (005930.KS) affiliates. Elliott was a minority stakeholder in Samsung C&T and opposed the deal, deeming the terms of the merger unduly unfavourable to the company. The NPS, which approved the merger, held a larger stake in Samsung C&T and was viewed as a casting vote. The arbitration tribunal ordered the South Korean government to pay Elliott about $53.6 million in damages, plus delayed interest, as well as $28.9 million in legal fees, the justice ministry said, without elaborating. Elliott welcomed the decision in a statement, and urged South Korea to "pay the ultimate award rather than pursue baseless legal proceedings to challenge the Tribunal's decision".

"I do not see much upside in the market near-term," Slimmon, senior portfolio manager at the firm, said in notes sent to CNBC on Tuesday. Stocks to buy Slimmon said it's time to buy some "offensive" stocks. Offensive stocks are those that tend to do well when the market goes up, while defensive sectors are the sectors that outperform when the market goes down. "So I think it's very dangerous to own just very defensive stocks … I think you want some offensive in your portfolio," Slimmon told CNBC's " Squawk Box Asia " on Tuesday. Near-term opportunity Slimmon said there's one area he sees as a near-term opportunity: China.
LONDON, March 15 (Reuters) - Central banks juggling inflation and financial stability mandates are prompting the wildest swings in bedrock government bonds for over a decade and a surge in volatility that may end up causing problems of its own. "The Fed and other central bankers have lost the luxury of focusing singularly on the fight against inflation," said Manulife Investment Management's Frances Donald. If the history of banking crashes and related credit crunches show them to be deflationary anyway, then many argue a central bank pause now may be the wisest choice. "The Fed is now fighting inflation as well as potential financial contagion," Lombard Odier Chief Investment Officer Stéphane Monier said. The first sign of regional bank stock calm on Tuesday, alongside the sticky core inflation readings for February, prompted a build-back of some bets for one last hike from each central bank.

Morgan Stanley Investment Management's Andrew Slimmon says that stocks are set to rally further. Stocks went through a difficult year in 2022, with the S & P 500 plummeting nearly 20%. Slimmon predicted that the U.S. Federal Reserve will raise rates a few more times, before pausing. Investment bank Evercore Inc (EVR.N) is advising Criteo on the process, the sources added. Criteo declined to comment, while an Evercore spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The sale process for Criteo will likely pique the interest of buyout firms that have shown strong interest in audience measurement and analytics companies. Criteo collects data through partnerships with companies, ad agencies and brands, and earns money by charging advertisers when consumers click on personalized ads. In response, Criteo has been investing in its fast-growing retail media business, which involves partnering directly with the websites of retailers.
The Act states the Fed should conduct monetary policy "so as to promote effectively the goals of maximum employment, stable prices, and moderate long-term interest rates." On that basis, the average core PCE inflation rate since 2010 is exactly 2.0% - even after the recent scare and with the monthly rate ebbing again fast. At 1.25%, real 10-year yields - measured by market inflation expectations rather than prevailing inflation - are far above sub-zero post-pandemic troughs and are also some of the highest in over a decade. And hence the cat and mouse game between Fedspeak and market pricing - rather than a material change to investors' assumption that the Fed is nearly done. U.S. Fed has missed the mark on inflationThe opinions expressed here are those of the author, a columnist for Reuters.
